Placements and Internships
- At present, I am in the second year, so I don't have many ideas about Internship or Placement.
- But National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur [NIT Hamirpur] has a pretty good placement record compared to other Nits of the same level.
College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities
- NIT Hamirpur has got one the most expensive budgets only for infrastructure. If the location were not to be considered it would have been the most beautiful campus.
- No need to worry about hostels as these are the excellent hostels you would find compared to other NIT's or even some IIT's.
- Hostel fee would be Rs. 20,000 (approx.) per semester for boys and Rs. 12,000 for girls.
- Hostel fee includes Accommodation and Food combined.
- Overall this college has got the best infrastructure (classrooms, hostels, labs, workshops, playground, computer center, etc).
- All hostels are rigged with either WiFi or Lan or both, you can expect WiFi in every department. You can say the whole campus is WiFi enabled (excluding 30% of campus).
Entrance Exams and Admissions
- The Admission Criteria and Entrance Examination like JEE MAIN and Advanced Stuff and all.
- The cut-offs are as follows:
- Gen:10,000 to 12,000(CSE) and ranges to 18,000(Civil) and 20000(Chemical), ECE, Mech, Elec are between 12,000 to 17,000.
- OBC:14,000 to 16,000(CSE), 28,000(Civil), 30,000(Chem), ECE, Mech, Elec are between 16,000 to 25,000.
- SC/ST: Maybe up to 2,00,000.
Academics and Faculty
- The classes in National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur [NIT Hamirpur] start at 8.30 am till 4.45pm with a lunch break in between. Mostly the afternoons are dedicated to Labs.
- Assignments are pretty simple and are mostly copied.
- The method of teaching is not as good as expected.
- The college still follows absolute grading system which in my view is not good for a competitive environment.
Fees and Scholarships

- The hostel costs Rs. 20K per semester (that's reasonable for the services provided).
- Scholarships are also listed in college website and there is a huge list of it.
- General Category Students cannot hope for any kind of scholarship except in a case of very low family income and home state students, apart from that most of OBC's get good Scholarships and SC/ST's get complete fee waiver.
- In certain cases of not getting required CGPI then you have to consider Loans as you will not be eligible for Scholarship.
- Loans are easily available from campus in SBI Bank.
Clubs and Associations
- Clubs and Societies are the hot topic in the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur [NIT Hamirpur] campus all the time.
- Some clubs function only during fests and some function year around.
- Each department has got its own club. Joining a club is considered a must.
- The fests include Hillfair(Cultural) and Nimbus(Technical). Students actively participate in the events and these fests provide much-needed relief from the highly stressful exams time.
- College also conducts annual Sports Meet.
- Overall College experience would be awesome.
