Vamanjoor is just eight kilometers away from the city of Mangalore. Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, popularly known as Bethany Sisters had begun a Kannada Medium High School at Vamanjoor. This school became a beacon of light to the rural poor. Later in the year 2000 the people pressed on to have a P U College and the demand was fulfilled.
Naturally the parents of the students kept on insisting for a Degree College as travelling to the city was tedious and to the village folk education seemed too costly. Bethany Educational Society heeding to the desire of the locale dared to start St Raymond’s degree college at Vamanjoor in 2009. The students who avail education here are the rural poor. Most of them could not dream of getting into College education but for this college. Bethany has always stood by the marginalized and rural people. Therefore it was apt for the Mangalore Province to gift a College to the rural poor.
