Sammilani Mahavidyalaya was established on 12th of December, 1996 by the initiative of some academic entrepreneurs, with a definite objective to impart knowledge and skill to the young generation of the locality. The college is committed to providing quality education and to facilitate all-round development of students. SM college has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in 2005 and awarded grade ‘B’. What started with only three students, is now bustling with almost 2000 students in the different departments of Arts, Science and Commerce faculties.

The college has been striving towards its mission of imparting quality education on an inclusive basis to the students from all strata of the society with special care for the underprivileged. Among the several amenities of the college, are a multi-gym and sports officer to encourage sporting spirit and physical fitness among the students. Sammilani Mahavidyalaya, [SM] Kolkata offers BA, B.Sc and B.Com courses through its faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce. Major steps have been taken towards technological upgradation of the college infrastructure for it to meet global standards, in view of the same, wifi facility has been enabled in the campus, for students and faculty. An active placement cell in the college, receives visits from IT and real estate companies. Apart from this, the college also has a well-stocked library and state-of-the-art laboratories.

The college offers courses at the undergraduate level. Programmes are provided by the faculties of Art and Humanities, Language, Science and Commerce. Three basic general degrees in BA, B.Sc and B.Com are offered, students also have the choice to opt for Honours programmes in all three degrees, this provides an in-depth study of the chosen subject. in case of general courses, there are multiple subject choices in each category, of which one can be selected by the students. Course:
The Bachelor’s courses are for a duration of 3 years.

General courses have set compulsory subjects, in case of Honours programme, electives will be according to Honours subject chosen.

In case of the General BA/B.Sc courses, the following three subjects will be compulsory alongside the core course subjects-

• English
• Bengali/Alternative English
• Environmental Studies

And in case of the General B.Com degree, they are-

• Major Indian Language
• Communicative English

Eligibility criteria for candidates seeking admission are given below-

Admission:
Admission of the courses takes place during the month of June, soon after publication of the results of H. S. Examination of W. B. Council, I.S.C. Examination and C.B.S.E., Examination.
