The Department of Commerce, DU formally set up as a separate entity in 1967, has imbibed the DSE tradition of exploring new frontiers of knowledge and innovation in academics. In its history spanning over five decades, it has redefined commerce education in the country. The Department has the legitimate claim and pride of being the premier institution in India for course curriculum development, teaching and research in Commerce discipline.

The rapid growth of the Department of Commerce is reflected in its expansion as well as novelty in its academic programmes. The Department of Commerce Admissions has led to the commencement of master level professional programmers, in addition to the traditional M. Phil., PhD and their flagship M.Com Programs. As a response to market imperatives, the Department of Commerce Admissions initiated two new postgraduate professional programmes in 1995, namely, Master of International Business (MIB) and Master of Human Resource and Organizational Development (MHROD).

Commerce Program:

Department of Commerce started a one-year full-time Post-graduate Diploma in International Marketing (PGDIM) in the year 1985-86. This programme was well-received by trade and industry. The feedback received from such organisations as well as the alumni prompted the Department to introduce full-time two-year MIB [Now MBA (IB] laying particular emphasis on aspects of international business operations including global marketing and international financial management. The main objective of the programme is to develop candidates suitable for entry-level managerial positions in the field of international business management.

Management Program:

The university postgraduate programs under stream MBA which are designed for two years respectively to offer the management discipline with necessary amenities to strengthen the students with the perspective to build in the decision making and leadership skills.

Department of Commerce, DU Admissions:

The Department of Commerce is inviting online applications for admissions. The Candidates seeking admission under this category are required to fulfil the eligibility. Based on the merit in the under-graduate degree, separate merit lists will be prepared for the general as well as reserved categories of the students. Candidates who have appeared for the examination in the postgraduate program can also apply. However, such candidates will be allowed to appear for the entrance test only provisionally. Their applications will be considered subject to the submission of their final results within a prescribed time stipulated by the Department and fulfilment of the minimum eligibility requirements.
