Army College of Medical Science [ACMS], Delhi is a Medical Council of India [MCI] recognized college, under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society. It is a premier medical college in India. It was established in the year 2008 to provide quality UG medical education to the wards of serving and retired Indian Army personnel. It has a capacity of 100 undergraduate students every year who have an army background. ACMS is affiliated with Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi.
The students graduating from this college are encouraged to join the Indian Army and serve the country as doctors. It is considered as one of the best medical colleges in India by various sources and surveys. The department of Anatomy desires to become the best at teaching the form of the human body in a clinically appropriate context. The dept also conducts various research activities to encourage students and faculty. The students from this dept are engaged in various research projects under ICMR. Microbiology is an important part of Medical Sciences and it provides knowledge about the natural history of infectious disease. The dept of Microbiology in ACMS Delhi has a state of the art museum and a fully equipped student's practical laboratory comprises a Trinocular microscope with CCTV and central gas supply. The University College of Medical Sciences was founded in 1971 by efforts of the Health Minister of Delhi. The Health Ministry proposed to supply medical education to each student who qualified. Even with the presence of two medical colleges in Delhi, MAMC and LHMC, many students were denied the chance to review medicine. In 1971, classes for the new college started within the makeshift Department of Chemistry on the North Campus of University of Delhi. the scholars had their clinical postings for practicals at the Safdarjung Hospital for 125 students. Additional 50 students were sent to Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Shortly afterwards, UCMS moved to Safdarjung Hospital in South Delhi. During students' final year of internship, cadets are posted in different clinical departments in army base hospital. After internship students are free either they can join the armed forces as commissioned officer or practice in their own clinics. Salary as a doctor in armed forces is as per their norms.
Fees and ScholarshipTution fees is 3,60,000 per year for the 2019 batch and hostel charges is INR 61,600 fees and is subjected to change which they will inform through their website. Pradhan Mantri Scholarship Yojna is available for students. The scholarship is provided to students as per their performance in academics. Also there are many other scholarships for students.
