The University College of Medical Sciences was founded in 1971 by efforts of the Health Minister of Delhi. The Health Ministry proposed to supply medical education to each student who qualified. During students' final year of internship, cadets are posted in different clinical departments in army base hospital. After internship students are free either they can join the armed forces as commissioned officer or practice in their own clinics.
