Vernacular Question Papers now a mere Translation of the Question Paper in English
The CBSE has informed the Supreme Court that only one set of question papers would be set for students taking the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) from this year.
Earlier students were allowed to take NEET in 10 languages, including Hindi and English. 10 different sets of question papers were prepared for each language.
This practice of setting different sets of question papers in different languages was earlier termed as "illogical" by the apex court saying that it would be "very difficult" to evaluate the competency of students when their questions are different. The Supreme court, however, did not accept the board’s contention saying that if the level of difficulty for all papers were the same, then it served the purpose of uniformity in the examination and there was nothing wrong in having multiple sets of question papers.
Candidates though were highly vocal about the complaints with setting different sets of papers claiming it to be a “misconduct”.
After consideration, Union Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javadekar, finally announced that the vernacular question papers for the national level medical entrance examination will 'be a mere translation of the question paper in English' in the future.
