ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
St. Stephen's College, New Delhi, regarded as one of the premier Science and Arts colleges in India, offers undergraduate courses in Physics, Chemistry, English, Economics, Mathematics, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit, B.Sc. (Programme) and B.A. (Programme). The nonpareil faculty members of this college, officially known as the Senior Members, are not only highly qualified academicians but also excellent human beings who are always there for the students of the college - the Junior Members - whenever they need them. Regular theory classes are held for every undergraduate course and they are complemented by weekly tutorial classes wherein the teachers review the lessons taught through the week through exercises and also clarify any doubts that the students may have. Moreover, the teachers are always approachable for clearing doubts through e-mail and during their off periods. The class hours of the science courses are particularly hectic, as there are regular and rigorous three-hour laboratory classes three to four days a week, along with intensive theoretical classes. The college hosts a huge library with thousands of books on diverse subjects ranging from Literature to Quantum Physics. The college also offers part-time Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma language courses in several languages. Recently, the college, in collaboration with Network 18, has introduced an open course on Citizenship And Cultural Richness, which is a multi-disciplinary certificate course for any citizen of Delhi with an eagerness to gain knowledge on issues ranging from Politics to Science. The weekly lectures are hosted in the College Hall by some eminent faculty members and ex-Stephenians.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE & INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE:
Every year, there are student exchange programmes and scholarship opportunities available with some of the leading international universities like Brown University, USA, and Soka University, Japan.
CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS:
The college has a vibrant cultural life as there are a total of 45 co-curricular and academic societies that regularly organise and participate in various intra-college and inter-college events, some of the notable ones being The Students' Union Society, The Debating Society, The Shakespeare Society, Spic Macay, The Planning Forum, and The Indian Choreography Society. In February each year, a three-day long intra-college cultural fest, called 'Harmony', is organised through the collaborative efforts of the various societies, wherein all the students get together and let their hair down through a number of fun activities and games. Ample opportunities are available for students interested in sports to participate in various inter-college competitions and tournaments.
The social atmosphere of the college is one of unity in diversity. The student body comprises young people belonging to various ethnicities, and everyone accepts each one as their own. The senior students are very welcoming of the freshers from day one, and the faculty members make it a point to ensure that each student gets enough attention to learn and develop properly. Morning Assemblies are held in the college hall for the First Year students, from Monday to Thursday every week, wherein, usually, our Reverent Principle imparts valuable life lessons to the students, and, often, notable ex-Stephenians are invited as guest speakers. The campus thrives with some activity or the other almost every day, thus everyone gets plenty of scope to express and nurture their talents, with the full support of their elders and peers, and learns to develop strong, long-lasting interpersonal bonds.
