The college, recognised under the University of Delhi, strictly follows the curriculum offered under the University guidelines. Nonetheless, the college tries it\'s best to suit the needs of students to adjust the lectures on different slots. Also, the remarkable faculty tries it\'s best to imbibe the course with some good lessons for everyday well being. The best part of being in the college is its very accommodating surroundings, ranging from a chaotic society practice to serenity. The infrastructure adds to the overall experience and is one of the best in Delhi University. Academically, students find it hard to score good in the different projects and they have to word extraordinarily hard to stand out. All in all, once you enter into the college, you know you have made a good decision, as it offers a combination of factors which help to deal with adulthood with flying colours
I was involved in social work and public speaking, all of which made me the person I am today. The societies were active and informative. The festivals gave an opportunity to do networking and have a blast.
Miranda is committed to the highest standards of educational and other provision for all of us students, and encourages us to provide the Institute with thoughtful and constructive feedback towards the end of each semester.
This semester there had been a change in the duration of classes( previously it was 55 minutes and now it is 60 min) and so it is quite tedious. And I believe our lunch break and coffee breaks which are for 20 min and 15 min respectively are too short to refresh oneself. Assignments are usually last minute rushes however am amazed at my peers\' works. There is always enough time to study before examinations so no need to worry if one have missed most of the classes or have plenty to mug up before the semester exam. Most of the well experienced senior teachers\' classes are worth attending (even if it means waking up at 7.00 on a cold winter morning). However some of the guest lecturers are quite a bore and its better to sleep through the whole lecture. Miranda House has a lot to offer in the overall development of an individual. The groups and societies of the college provides a space for one to renew their passion in art, music, dance and so on. The campus does not lack its own share of festivities and in february we have the annual college fest "tempest" followed by the fests of each of the departments. The annual fest tempest is the much awaited fest in the whole of north campus. Usually it is a three day long affair and the final day is the day where we have the music concert flanked by well known artists of the country.Life at Miranda house is an experience worth taking.
Miranda House, residential college for women, is one of the premier Women's Institutions of Delhi University. It was founded in 1948 by the then Vice-Chancellor Sir Maurice Gwyer; its foundation stone was laid by Lady Edwina Mountbatten on March 7 in the same year. Located on the University campus, Miranda House is built in warm red brick with cool and spacious verandahs. Its original design was by the renowned architect Walter George, the college shares an architectural affinity with other colonial educational institutions of the country. In the past five decades, as the college has grown, several other buildings have been added to its original design. It is now declared a heritage building and work is on to maintain its pristine glory.
Miranda offers liberal education in humanities and science to more than 2500 students. The faculty is renowned for their meritorious profile, versatile talent and dedication to the cause of education. The college has produced women who have excelled in various professions and have contributed in numerous ways to society at large.
The college has always maintained high academic standards. What is more important is the space it has provided to the students to freely express and develop views that help them respond to changes in society. Its proximity to other campus colleges enables students to participate in the academic and cultural events that take place around it.
The college also has a hostel, which happens to be amongst the oldest residential buildings of the University. The hostel has recently been renovated under the Heritage Building Project. The hostel section is laid out in a pleasing quadrangle, with gardens paced out by bottle palms. The design allows a spacious privacy within which residents can be as they like. The dining hall is one of the assets of the college with monastic tables and benches set along a long hall. The stretch of ground curving around the hostel towards the Cafeteria has been cleared away for a beautiful lawn and a rockery extending the social attractions of the Cafeteria, particularly on sunny winter days. It has also brought out the potential of the balcony outside the student's common room as an elevated stage for cultural events.
A Mirandian is known not only for her academic excellence but also for her involvement in extracurricular activities. Miranda House has always encouraged its students to interact and participate in diverse activities outside the classroom. Such is the range of opportunities that throughout the year, the auditorium, the common rooms, the cafeteria and the lawns buzz with passionate and vibrant patter of budding actors, journalists, singers, writers, painters, social workers and political activists.
