If you want a secured job, VISIT is the place to be. During my tenure, TCS came first and took over 80 students! Followed by Accenture which took about 65 students. In fact, there's a rumour which goes around that companies try extremely hard to hit the campus first. After VJTI, I believe VESIT had and still has the best placement opportunities. Though the Alumni network was not strong, the interaction between the students of all sections was pretty high. There was a huge society culture in the college. Now there are only 3-4 societies and they tend to remain pretty focused. Alumni always helped when it came to further studies.
The institution is in Chembur. The station is there on the Harbor line. students in central line generally get down at Kurla and take a shared rickshaw. The students in western found the place a bit far away. Mumbai has a decent transport facility.
Basically, Mumbai university was more tilted towards bookish knowledge and so I cannot blame my college to be more focused on that. A few professors were good and a few not that good. The campus was very small (now the game has changed big time) so attending the classes were the only option. Many professors were straight out of the college with just the basic understanding of subjects and that's not how an ideal teacher/professor should be. Faculty did stress upon the importance of practicals, but grades were heavily dependent on the written exams and the facilities in the college were not up to the mark.
