Placements and Internships

  • No I haven't done any internship yet. I do not receive any stipends.
  • Some pharmaceutical companies hire from our department.
  • Average salary figures per year is about Rs 204000 per year and highest salary figures per year is about Rs. 264000. About 3% of the students from 3rd year (batch strength is 50) gets placed.
  • Majority of the students of alumni network are still doing research and PhD.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

  • There is one hostel for the boys and one for the girls. The hostels are very hygeinic and maintain a good environment for studying.The hostel fee per month is Rs 6000.
  • The PGs have food problem and they cost about Rs 10000 per month.
  • There is a college canteen and per meal costs Rs 40-50.
  • Quality of classrooms  is very good,Labs are spacious,libraries are easily accessible, dining halls are hygeinic,Wi-Fi is not accessible to all,playgrounds are big,there is a cyber cafe inside the college.

Academics and Faculty

  • I travel a 2 hour journey to reach college by 10 a.m. The classes end at 4 a.m.We have two semesters in a year.We need to complete the honours practical assignments, and also the ancillary subject(physics and chemistry) practical assignments.We have recently done a training project on plant tissue culture.
  • Quality of teaching is very good.The teachers are very interactive with the students.A lot of importance is given on the attendance percentage.we have one mid semester exam between two semesters which includes continuous internal assesment.A Foundation course period is there for self development.There is also language subject along with other subjects.
  • The college also gives a lot of importance to extra-curricular activities and sports.There is also a NSS and NCC cell.Participation in social activities is compulsory for all. We all enjoy our college days.

Fees and Scholarships

  • The course fee per year is about Rs.80000 (per year).
  • Scholarship options available are DST scholarships and JBNSTS scholarships.
  • Maximum 2 students each year get scholarship.
  • Yes loans are needed.They can be availed from SBI.

Clubs and Associations

  • There is a students union,music and dance society,Bengali literature society,drama and theatre society,sports department,social sevice association,alumni association,Entrepreneurship development cell,IAS guidance cell,etc.
  • The main annual festival is the XAVOTSAV.Besides there are departmental festivals and sports tournaments,arts,tech,music and different cultural festivals in the college.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Merit list is prepared based on Marks Scored in Standard 12th. The cutoff for any stream is generally very high at St Xavier's College, Kolkata. Cut-off varies from year to year based on the marks obtained by the applicants.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The entrance exam is a written paper that has to be submitted by the applicants within a stipulated time. The paper is on general knowledge, English, common mass media knowledge. On qualifying in this, the selected candidates go through the second phase of personal interviews and are then given the final results on the basis of the aggregation of both these marks for the selected students.
