Vidyasagar College was founded in 1872 under the name of the Metropolitan Institute by Pundit Ishwar Chandra. The name, Metropolitan Institute, was changed to Vidyasagar College in 1917 after the passing away of the founder in 1891. The college has been accredited and graded B++ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in December 2016. Vidyasagar College admission can be taken by applying on the official website of the college.

The college has three campuses. Programs are broadly divided into a Masters Degree (autonomous status) and a Bachelors degree (affiliated to the University of Calcutta) and certificate courses in Computer (Vidyasagar College Computer Centre). Vidyasagar College placement cell assists students in getting jobs on the campus.

Vidyasagar College PG Courses:

The PG program enjoys the autonomous status affiliated to the University of Calcutta having its own constituted Board of Studies and follows the Semester System. The duration of study is 2 years, divided into 4 semesters (Total 1000 marks, 250 marks/semester). There is a provision for opting special papers for 200 marks in both Geography and Zoology in semester III & IV.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY

The daily routine is not followed at all.Most of the classes are vacant.Exam system is a very poor.No project of assignments.Teachers are the best here. Quality and method of teaching is very good in spite of many problems. It is a college to enjoy college life.


CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS

These are for political purpose . In general college life is excellent since we won't have to go to college everyday.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY

Class begins at 11:00 pm and end at 4:00 pm. Projects and assignment are given quarterly all round the year. Exams are held annually at the end of each session as per the CALCUTTA UNIVERSITY 2009 regulations. The teachers and staffs are excellent and helpful. Regularity and attendance are strictly followed with a minimum 75℅ attendance required for sitting in the final examinations.


CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS

Firstly, there is the Student's Union which is a support group and helps student facing problems in the college. Secondly, there is a drama society and club in the college which hold annual meet every year. The main festivals at the college are- Freshers, Annual Fest, Annual Sports Day, Departmental Fests.
