The New College, Chennai was established in 1951. The college is Government Aided Muslim minority College which is run by a Managing Committee of the MEASI under the Chairmanship of H. H. Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali. The New College is re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in its 3rd cycle, September 2015. The New College is affiliated to the University of Madras. In the year 2007, the college was acknowledge as autonomous.
