Sikkim Manipal University Directorate of Distance Education Highlights:

The Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is located in Gangtok and established by the Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences Act, 1995 (Act No. 9 of 1995) of the Government of Sikkim. It is a unique public-private partnership (PPP) model between Sikkim and Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG), the first of its kind in the country. Under this agreement, the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim is the Chancellor of SMU, while representatives of the Government of Sikkim are a part of the senior management of the University. Sikkim Manipal University Directorate of Distance Education Scholarships:

SMU-DDE Scholarships are offered to the students to help them clear their financial hurdles. Following are the names of the scholarships that SMU-DDE offers: 

• Divyang scholarship scheme was announced in the year of 2016 where 25% fee is reduced for differently-abled students.
• SMU-DE  offers a concession on fees of 30% to the in-service, retired and outgoing officers of the Indian Armed Forces.
• Candidates from states of Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram having valid address proof, may avail the fee waiver benefit.
• Students of SMU-DE has got EMI facility where fees can be paid with part-payments.

1. Is SMU a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)?
   - Yes, SMU is a member of the AIU and is duly listed at serial 240 on page 30 in the latest AIU booklet.

2. Do I need to write an entrance test for admission?
   - Most programs do not require the student to write an entrance test. The admission to these programs is based on eligibility criteria, as mentioned in the prospectus. For admission to MBA, however, a student needs to write the SMAT test.

3. Is there an education loan facility provided by the university?
   - We are sorry to inform you that there is no such facility is provided from the University at present. You may please approach any banks to know more.

SMU-DE Eligibility criteria for admission intake is based on past academic results. Students are counselled on the basis of merit list of past academic results mainly. Only a few courses have an entrance exam.
