  • Two internal exams are conducted for every semester.
  • The quality of teaching is good and helpful.

  • The main festivals in Government College of Engineering are technical and arts fest which conducted once a year and other college students were invited to the tech feast.

  • We have permanent staff taking our class with help of presentations.
  • Overall teaching is very good.Each subject will be having 2 assignments each.

  • Each year we will be having at least one fest.We used to have a rotation system.
  • We have a Tech fest, a cultural fest , and one with all the technical,cultural and sports mixed.
  • All of these are organized by college union.

About Government College of Engineering, [GCE] Kannur

The long cherished ambition of North Kerala to have an institution of higher learning in technical education was fulfilled through the establishment of the Government College of Engineering, Kannur in October 1986. The college is functioning in a large 75-acre (300,000 m2) unified academic complex, having sound and self-sufficient infrastructure, at Mangattuparamba, 15 k.m from the headquarters of the Kannur district.

The college is affiliated to the Kannur University. The college offers B.Tech Degree  in five branches, namely

  • Civil  Engineering
  • Mechanical  Engineering 
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering 
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering  and 
  • Computer Science & Engineering .

The present intake is 335 students per year for B.Tech. It also offersM.Tech courses in Elecrical and Electronics Engineering(Power Electronics and Drives)  and Mechanical Engineering(Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Systems)  from 2011-2012 onwards with an intake is 36 students per year.

he Government College of Engineering, Kannur (GCEK) is a state-sponsored engineering college affiliated to Kannur University,Kerala, India. The college was started in October 1986, as a center for imparting engineering education in northern Kerala. It began in the Town High School, Kannur Campus. In 2012, Careers360, a magazine promoted by Outlook Group, ranked it among the best engineering colleges in Kerala with AA+ rating.

GCEK has grown into a sprawling 75-acre (300,000 m2) campus in Mangattuparamba, just off National Highway NH-17, 15 km north from the district headquarters, Kannur.

The college has an annual intake of 300 students (under five four-year graduate courses), on merit basis through the All Kerala Common Entrance Examination.

M.Tech courses in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Power Electronics and Drives) and Mechanical Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Systems) were started from 2011-2012 onwards and Electronics and Communication Engineering (Signal Processing and Embedded Systems) and Civil Engineering (Computer aided Structural Engineering) with an annual intake of 72 students.

Gathering Halls

College has 2 open air auditoriums with a seating capacity of about 1000-1500. We also have a seminar hall in the main block with public addressing system , projectors and other facilities. Main blocks also has a separate conference hall aiming the administrative purposes.

Departmental blocks have their own seminar halls .All seminar halls are equipped with excellent furniture and equipments like LCD & OHP projectors.

The Training and Placement Cell functioning in the College is entrusted with the responsibility of :

  • Guiding students for placement in credible organization.
  • Conducting seminars, group discussions,and  mock interviews as a part of career guidance and personality development.
  • Coordinating the efforts of the students of the various departments in arranging industrial training for them.
  • Acting as an information center for students in job opportunities and competititve examinations like GATE, GRE, CAT and the like.

National Scholarship Scheme:

In order that no really brilliant student is prevented on the ground of poverty alone from pursuing an academic carrier, Government of India have formulated a national scholarship scheme, which will be awarded on the basis of the school Leaving Examination, Pre-degree Examination or the first Degree examinations. The award will be limited to scholars ,the income of whose parents does not exceed Rs.25,000 /- per year.
