Eligibility Criteria at Government College of Engineering, [GCE] Kannur

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech, M.Tech:

  • Candidate must have a pass in the pre-degree examination of the universities in Kerala state with mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other  accepted equivalent examination
  • The candidates securing a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics, and 50% marks in mathematics, physics, and chemistry put together are eligible for admission.
  • Socially and economically backwards classes (as approved by Government) of Kerala with a total family income below Rs.42000 and who have secured a minimum of 45% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission.
  • Candidates must have a diploma in engineering awarded by the board of technical examinations of the Kerala state or a diploma accepted as equivalent thereto (obtained after undergoing an institutional course of at last 3 years) securing a minimum of 50% marks in the final diploma examination are eligible for admission.
  • This minimum is 45% for candidates belonging to socially and economically backwards classes with a total family income below Rs.42000.
  • In case of scheduled tribes candidates, there will be no minimum mark requirements. Such candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination for admission.

Eligibility Criteria for residents of Kerala:

  • Those candidates who are nominees of other Indian states and union territories as per allotment of the Government of India
  • Those who have undergone their studies for the qualifying examination in any institution situated in Kerala state
  • Candidates who are children of central and state Government employees not belonging to Kerala, but who are serving in the state at the time of submission of the application.
  • Candidates who are children of employees of UNICEF and other agencies of the United Nations and children of persons who are not domiciled in the state, but who are permanently employed in any Government recognized institutions like public sector undertakings, statutory bodies or undertakings or autonomous bodies under the state or central Government, situated in the state of Kerala at the time of application for admission.
  • There is no restriction with regard to age for admission.
  • Selection of candidates is based on an entrance examination in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry conducted by the commissioner for the entrance examination, Government of Kerala.
  • Some seats are reserved for the nominees of the Government of India, repatriates from Burma, Ceylon, children of Ex-Servicemen of Kerala, Sports Council nominees, nominees of the Government of Karnataka and Tamilnadu (on reciprocal basis), nominees of N.C.C. etc. 50%of the remaining seats are filled up purely on the basis of state wide merit.
  • 15% of seats are allotted to Malabar area and Travancore-cochin area now forming part of Kerala in the ratio 5:8.
  • The remaining seats are filled up as per the quota system fixed by the Government for candidates belonging to the socially and economically backwards Classes, Scheduled Tribes and scheduled castes.

Application Process at Government College of Engineering, [GCE] Kannur

Application Process for B.Tech, M.Tech:

  • The candidates must apply to the respective entrance examinations.
  • The candidates must apply for KEAM examination if they wish to join the undergraduate program.
  • The candidates must apply for GATE examination if they wish to join the postgraduate program.
  • The application details for the entrance examinations can be found on the official website.
  • The candidate must download the application form and fill it as directed.
  • Then the candidate must submit the form.

B.Tech Application Form:

Step 1: Personal Details of the candidate.

  • The candidate must begin by filling personal details such as name, gender etc.
  • The mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk.
  • The candidate must fill the mandatory fields carefully and accurately.
  • The names and date of birth must be same as in the 12th marks sheet.

Step 2: Admission Details of the candidate.

  • The candidates must fill in their preference of admission details.
  • The candidate must be sure about their choice before filling the form.
  • The candidates must fill in the details honestly.
  • The candidates must have adequate proofs for their claims.

Step 3: Previous educational details:

  • The candidates must fill in the percentage obtained.
  • The candidates must give accurate information about their schooling.
  • The candidate must hold a valid marks sheet provided by the Board.

Step 4: Transfer Certificate details:

  • The candidates must hold a transfer certificate issued by the Board.
  • The candidate must fill in accurate details as in the certificate.

Step 5: Contact details of the candidate:

  • The candidates must give a permanent address so the communication is easier.
  • The candidate must provide an active phone number and email id.

Step 6: Additional information:

  • The candidate must provide accurate details about his/her parents.
  • The name must be same as in the marks sheet.
  • The candidates can give information about marks of identification.
  • The candidate must select his requirement of hostel facilities.

Step 7: Uploading scanned files:

  • The candidates must upload their recent colour photograph.
  • The candidate must upload his/her signature and parent's signature.
  • The candidate must keep all the documents scanned before filling the form.

Step 8: Submission of form:

  • The candidate must enter the captcha.
  • The case must be correct while entering the captcha.
  • The candidate must prove that he/she is not a robot hence the captcha.
  • Finally, the candidate must submit the form.


M.Tech Application Form:

Admission Process for B.Tech, M.Tech:

  • The admissions will be based on the merit obtained by the candidates.
  • The candidates will have to attend the counseling process of the entrance examination.
  • The candidates will be allotted seats based on the ranking obtained.
  • The candidate can choose to accept the seat allotted or go for the next round.
  • If the candidate chooses to accept the seat, he/she may pay the admission fee and enroll for the course.
