Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan was established with the vision of Late Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh who understood the importance of Horticulture and Forestry to improve the economy of Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the premier institutes providing education in the field of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Forestry.

The University follows the semester system of education. University puts great emphasis on high academic standards and discipline. The University encourages the all-round development of students and provides facilities for sports and games, NCC/NSS and other co-curricular activities (literary, cultural, hobby development). These activities are organized by the Students’ Welfare Organization of the University.

Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Infrastructure:

  • The Satyanand Library of the University stokes the collection of 70000 books in the field of Horticulture, Forestry and allied subjects.
  • It also provides access to many online resources and digital databases.
  • The University has a separate Computer Centre which provides connectivity to National Network underAgricultural Research Information System (ARIS) of ICAR.
  • The classrooms of the University are equipped with modern teaching gadgets like LCD projectors, overhead/ slide projectors, glass beaded screens, whiteboards for conducting theory classes, seminars and thesis colloquium.
  • Teachers use a portable public address system for classes of large capacity.
  • Separate undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories for practical and research are provided for most of the departments.
  • The University Guest House has the capacity to accommodate about 52 guests.
  • Farmland of an area of 97.75 hectares is under the control of different departments of the college for teaching and research purpose.

B.Sc

  • Student must have completed 10+2 with PCB/PCM and English as subjects with at least 60% marks from a recognized university.

B.Tech (Biotechnology)

  • Student must have completed 10+2 with PCB/PCM and English as subjects with at least 60% marks from a recognized university.

M.Sc

  •  Student must have completed B.Sc Horticulture/B.Sc {Hons.} Horticulture/B.Sc Forestry/B.Sc {Hons.} Forestry/ B.Sc Agriculture/ B.Sc {Hons.} Agriculture/ B.Sc with at least 60% marks or 6 CGPA on a scale of 10 from a recognized university.

MBA

  • Student must have completed graduation in any discipline with at least 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA on a scale of 10.

MBA (Agriculture)

  • Student must have completed B.Sc Horticulture/B.Sc {Hons} Horticulture/B.Sc Forestry/B.Sc {Hons.} Forestry/ B.Sc Agriculture/ B.Sc {Hons.} Agriculture/ B.Sc with at least 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA on a scale of 10 from a recognized university.
Ph.D
  • Student must have completed M.Sc Degree with at least 65% marks or 6.5 CGPA on a scale of 10 from a recognized university.

Diploma

  • Student must have completed 10+2 with at least 40% marks from a recognized university.

  • Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Admissions are merit-based.
  • The weightage of the marks is divided between Entrance Test (50%) and the marks obtained at 10+2 level in four subjects namely; English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Mathematics (50%).
  • In case two candidates obtain the same marks, preference is given to the candidate senior in age.
