The College of Engineering, Trivandrum was established in 1939 as the first engineering college in the then Travancore State. It started as a constituent college of Travancore University The college had an initial intake of 21 students each for Degree and Diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical branches. With the establishment of the Directorate of Technical Education in the late 1950s, the college administration came under the control of the Government of Kerala. The college was shifted to the present sprawling 125 acres in 1960. The college seeks to achieve national-level excellence and international visibility in every facet of engineering research and education. The college is affiliated with the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

The duration of the B.Tech courses is 4 years and the duration of the B.Arch course is 5 years. Admission to the undergraduate programs is made based on the merit rank obtained by the qualified student in the entrance test conducted by the Kerala State Government- KEAM and NATA. Applicants should have passed their 12th standard examinations in the science stream.
College of Engineering Trivandrum offers 23 different specializations in the postgraduate technology course with a wide variety of options ranging from Robotics & Automation to Financial Engineering. Candidates who have been awarded or qualified for the award of the Bachelor’s degree with 50% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply for admission to the MBA program, given they have written CAT/ KMAT/ CMAT. Applicants for M.Tech should have written GATE. All applicants are required to have completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

Admission for Ph.D. applicants is done by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University through a written test and interview conducted two times every year. Applicants should have completed their master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
The printed application form along with the rank card is to be submitted at the college. Applicants must also submit a recent passport-sized photograph, a receipt of fees paid as well as all necessary documents. Admission is based on the CET fee structure.
