FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP

The fee structure is INR 5,300/- per year on an average excluding all the other additional fees. There are numerous scholarships available in our college primarily based on the schemes of the honourable chief minister of our state and the prime minister of our nation. I never felt the need of acquiring an educational loan so I can't say much about it.

College Information

In the year 1955, Sri Jibandhan Ganguly, a renowned social worker and educationist from Belgharia, donated about 8.33 acres of land to the Government of West Bengal for the setting up of a degree college in the memory of his great grand father Late Bhairab Ganguly. The primary objective was to provide higher educational opportunities for boys and girls in the industrial area of Belgharia and adjoining places since it was inconvenient to go for higher education to Kolkata. The college was established on 3rd September 1968. The government subsequently transferred the arts section of Vivekananda Centenary College to the newly established Bhairab Ganguly College. In the following year science and commerce (in the evening session) courses were introduced. This worked as a booster to the new institution as a good number of experienced teachers joined the college. Later in 1980, the commerce course was merged with the day section. In 1968, the college started its journey with 4 teachers and 21 students and was providing education in very few specified subjects. But at present the roll strength has reached 4844 with 92 faculty members and the college is now offering honours course in 18 subjects in science, arts and commerce stream along with general courses.

Bhairab Ganguly College has been contributing to the academic enrichment and development of human resources of its hinterland, encompassing the entire domain of the North suburban locality of Kolkata metropolis, an area belonging to the Northern periphery of the city and its neighouing districts. The college has created and maintained an academic atmosphere that promotes the all-round personality development of the students and enables one to grow to the fullest. The aim of the college is to bring to light the inherent qualities of budding learners, to enlighten the human values and to convey the benefits of higher education to those untouched by the gifts of progress. The excellent faculty of this institution always tries to reach the have-nots and light the candles of hope, joy, justice, harmony and freedom. The college strives to create a learning culture that exemplifies excellence in teaching, promotes lifelong-learning and prepares students for the challenges of tomorrow. Since its inception BGC has shown consistent performance in academics, extra-curricular spheres and extension activities towards the society. The college endeavours constantly to develop as an enabling educational institution, grooming the overall personality of the young citizens with the highest emphasis on ethical and social values.

BGC is a co-educational college and it offers degree courses in all the three main streams in a single shift during the day time. A sprawling 8.33 acres campus unfound in any other nearby college, provides space for higher education, games and cultural facilities which contribute to the holistic development of nearly 5000 strong student coming from all cross-section of the society with varied social, economic, religious and cultural backgrounds. BGC is a government-sponsored college and is recognized u/s 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act.

Vision and Mission

The Vision of the college is embodied in Swami Vivekananda’s adage originated from ‘The Upanishad’.
“Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is achieved.”

For the realization of the vision, our mission, in accordance with the Vedic text is:
Charan vai madhu vindati charan swadudumbaram |
Suryasya pasya sremanam yo na tandrayate charan ||
charaiveti
