Bhagini Nivedita College (BNC) is a constituent college of University of Delhi. It was established by the then Delhi Administration in August, 1993 as a girls college; in the rural and semi-urban outskirts of South West Delhi. It is now funded and supported by the Government of Delhi. The college is named after Sister Nivedita, a disciple of Swami Vivekanand who dedicated her whole life for the education and welfare of women. Its campus is located adjacent to village Kair near to Najafgarh in a clean and green environment surrounded by farms and trees.

Starting with only B A (Pass), B A (Hons.) Hindi in 1993, BNC has progressively added more courses. B.Com (Pass) was introduced in 1996-97. BNC was the first Delhi University college to offer Apparel Dsign and Construction course in 1997. B.A. Programme replaced the B A (Pass) course in 2004. A variety of new application courses were also instituted along with it. BNC became an arts,commerce and science college with the launching of B.Sc Applied Physical Sciences course in 2007. Bhagini Nivedita College admission is done on the basis of merit only.

BNC has a total teaching faculty of around 70 members. The total number of Non-Teaching Staff working in the college is around 40. Since its inception, BNC has built up an impressive reputation and record in both academics and sports. The teaching faculty consists of highly qualified academicians. It has excellent laboratories, infrastructure facilities and supporting staff.

Library:

The library has over 25000 books out of which about 7000 are text books. It subscribes to 54 magazines and journals and 12 newspapers. About 700 to 1000 books are added annually. The reading room is air-conditioned. The library also has Audio CDs and Braille Books for visually challenged. The library has been provided with UPS back up to cope with power outages. The list of new books and journals acquired by the library is published on a monthly basis through the college website.

Sports:

The college has a Sports Committee and an Assistant Professor of Physical Education, who are responsible for promoting sports, organising sports events and facilitating the participation of the students in competitions. Specific policies and strategies adopted with regard to sports and games include the following:

1. Annual Sports Day: Students and staff compete in different events and win prizes and also put up group displays of their expertise in aerobics, yoga, martial arts and fencing.
2. Morning games: Practice games and sports training is organised for all students in the morning hours before commencement of classes.
3. Relaxation in Attendance: Students participating in inter- college/university sports and ECA competitions are given attendance relaxation as per rules.
4. Inter-college Competitions: The college also provides transportation facility and bears the cost of registration in the case of students participating in inter- college competitions.
5. Coaching Facilities: Special coaches are appointed from time to time to provide specialised training to the students selected for participation inter-college or national competitions.
6. Sports Kits: College provides sports kits and refreshments to the participating students during competitions. Some of the other facilities have been mentioned below.

Bhagini Nivedita College Laboratories:

The college has set up well equipped laboratories and is constantly upgrading the facilities for teaching subjects involving practical work in both the B.A Programme and B.Sc Applied Physical Sciences (Computer Science).

The laboratories attached to the B.A Programme are:

1. Apparel Design & Construction laboratory has two sections: one devoted to dyeing and printing and another to garment construction. It is equipped with industrial grade sewing machines, and variety of textile testing instruments. It also possesses a high graphics computer system with CAD and other Design software.
2. Food Technology laboratory has facilities for cooking, baking and packaging besides a number of instruments
3. Nutrition & Health Education laboratory has a good collection of instruments and related equipment
4. Music department has a good collection of musical instruments and aids
5. Office Management & Secretarial Practice is fully equipped with computer facilities and Internet connection

College Van:

The college has three CNG vans which are available for commuting between the college campus and Mitraon at fixed timings.

Printing Facility:

For the convenience of the students, the computer centre of the college also provides printing services at reasonable cost.

Canteen:

Canteen is open on all working days between 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. Special care is taken to maintain hygiene in and around the canteen.

The cultural committee of the college works with the objective of developing the academic and cultural talents of the students, improving their capabilities to work as a team and raising their level of self-confidence in interacting with fellow students and peers. 

Cultural activities organised by the committee include the three day annual cultural festival "Navrang", which is organized usually in the month of December and includes a number of intra and inter-college competitions in Mehndi, Rangoli, Pot Painting, Poem Recitation, Debate, Short Plays, Fancy Dress, Singing (Solo & Group), Dance (Solo & Group), etc. Winners of the competitions are awarded certificates, trophies in the intra-college events, while cash prizes are awarded in inter-college events. Renowned atristes are also invited to perform during this festival.

Bhagini Nivedita College Scholarships:

Bhagini Nivedita College Scholarship includes scholarship for students who are involved in sports. Sports Quota & Fee Concession: The college offers a five percent quota for admissions under the Sports/ECA category. Trials for admissions under this category are conducted during the admission period based on applications received in the prescribed format. The college also provides full fee concession to students winning medals at various levels.

Bhagini Nivedita College Admissions Procedure:

As a constituent college of the University of Delhi, admissions for the courses offered by the College are governed by the rules and procedures of the the University.There is no entrance examination for any of the Undergraduate Course offered by the College.

The candidates who wish to be considered for admission to the Undergraduate courses offered of the College are required to register online at the Delhi University website. The college publishes the minimum cut off marks required for admission in the different undergraduate courses offered by it as per the Admission Calendar for that particular Academic Year. Students interested in taking admission in to the college should keep a track of cut off mark announcements and visit the college for taking admission by paying the applicable fee within deadline specified for each cut off announcement. 

The College admits only Girls. The admission shall be made on the basis of merit. Physical presence of the candidate seeking admission is essential.
