CBSE Class 12th English Paper Analysis 2020

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class 12th English exam 2020 on 27th February 2020. This was the first language subject examination for class 12th students conducted from 10.30 AM to 1.30 PM. The class 12th English paper 2020 consisted of theory examination for 80 marks and the remaining 2 marks from the internal assessment conducted with the respective schools. CBSE class 12th board exam English paper was attempted by students in all streams - Science, Commerce and Arts streams across the country.
CBSE Class 12th English Paper 2020 Pattern
In order to avoid memorization and instead promote developing analytical and reasoning skills, major changes were observed in the CBSE class 12th English exam pattern for this year. There was an increased focus on objective type questions with about 25% of the paper to include multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The English paper was divided into three sections - Reading, Writing skills and Literature Textbooks. The weightage of each section is given in the table below.

Although no overall choices were presented, there were internal choices for questions within all three sections. Choices were given for 1 question from section A, four questions from section B and three questions from section C. It was also important for students to not exceed the word limit that was mentioned for certain questions.
The 20 marks from internal assessment for CBSE class 12th English paper 2020 was to be assessed by external examiners on the student's speaking and listening skills. The internal assessment was conducted prior to the commencement of CBSE class 12th theory exams.
CBSE Class 12th English Paper 2020 Analysis - Student's Feedback
Most students stated that the CBSE class 12th English paper 2020 was quite an easy to moderate paper. Some students claimed that the writing skills section especially was slightly lengthier when compared to other sections, but with enough practice through CBSE class 12th English sample paper and previous years papers, students were able to manage their time and finish the paper. The students also stated that class 12th English paper was quite as expected because the pattern followed was similar to that of class 12th English sample papers provided by the CBSE board. Some students also felt the CBSE class 12th English paper 2020 to have been easier than the preboards conducted within the school.

Teachers also agreed with students saying the English paper was very easy this year. One of the teachers also pointed out that the topics provided in the writing sections were based on current or contemporary issues such as sports, health, education, cleanliness etc. On the length of the paper, teachers commented that class 12th English paper followed the regular standard and would have been difficult only for students who lacked practice and unable to manage their time effectively. The questions from the last section were direct and everything that was asked came directly from the textbooks that were within the syllabus prescribed by NCERT.
