Pearson Test of English Guidelines provide tips on things to consider before and during the exam. PTE is opted by candidates who want to travel abroad for work or education purposes. It is a mandatory test that evaluates reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Therefore, before applying, it is crucial to know the PTE exam guidelines. The PTE exam is held in three parts.

Part I is Speaking and Writing, Part II is Reading, and Part III is Listening. Besides, the time allotted to attempt each part varies.

Guidelines refer to the bunch of set instructions that are supposed to be followed throughout the examination process. One of the main benefits of appearing for the PTE Academic Exam is the ease of access and convenience of the conducting body. Additionally, it has set up test centres conveniently for candidates looking to appear for the PTE test.

PTE Exam Guidelines - Pre-Exam 

The day just before the PTE exam holds equal importance as the exam day itself. Certain things are needed to be particularly followed:

  • Keep calm; revise only if essential. It is often seen that candidates jinx the exam by preparing too much.
  • Try to maintain a healthy diet the day before, avoid junk and overeating.
  • Listen to meditative music that soothes the mind.
  • Lastly, try to sleep early and complete the 8 hours sleep cycle. 

PTE Exam Day Guidelines

The PTE exam day will be taxing, with the amount of built-in performance pressure for the exam. Hence, here are some of the PTE exam guidelines; make sure to follow this:

  • Make sure to reach the exam venue at least 30 minutes before the starting of the PTE exam.
  • Carry a proper identification card that is a valid passport, as mentioned on the website. Besides, due to security reasons, the candidate will have their photograph clicked, and biometrics scanned at the time of verification of id for official use only.
  • Further, each candidate will be provided with a locker in the PTE examination hall. All personal belongings such as mobile phones, electronic devices, any eatables could be kept in the locker. 
  • Once the personal belongings are safely kept in the locker, they will be directed to the examination hall. However, no barred items should be carried inside the examination hall. 
  • Candidates are allowed to take a 10-minute break in between the PTE exam. After the allotted time, they are expected to return to their respective seats. 
  • Take initial time to access the complete question paper, chalk out the known answers. 
  • Additionally, candidates are always advised not to waste time on unknown questions. 
  • Avoid wasting time on one question. 
  • Candidates feel panic while seeing the question paper; they are advised not to break down if one or two questions are unknown. Rather, focus on the known ones.
  • Moreover, candidates must learn the tactics to distribute their time evenly. Each question demands equal attention; thus, dividing the time is necessary.
  • Read all the instructions mentioned on the question paper. Correct usage of punctuation is a must skill.
  • Answer promptly for the speaking part. Respond as quickly as possible. Don't display any nervousness.
  • Skipping breakfast due to the PTE exam tension is highly risky. Never do that. Proper food can keep the body fit to appear for the exam.
  • Carry light snacks, if possible, to tame the sudden hunger pangs.
  • Lastly, wear comfortable clothes to avoid any suffocation or discomfort. 

What After PTE Exam?

Once the exam is completed, candidates should wait for the results. The results are usually published within five days of the exam. Therefore, candidates can visit the official website and check it from there. Furthermore, suppose the candidates have scored the desired marks; in that case, they can apply for the university or jobs they are interested in. 

In case the desired result is not obtained, candidates can retry. Nevertheless, the eligibility scores vary for various universities; hence, candidates can apply for those. 

Further, if the candidates want to score higher marks, they can reappear for the test. The PTE exam is conducted multiple times in a year, and it can work in their favour.

How to Prepare for the PTE Exam?

Just as the ship needs the radar for proper direction, PTE exam preparation too needs correct direction. Therefore, here are some of the best tips to prepare for the exam.

  • Take an English proficiency exam, evaluate the score. Once that is done, set an individual target for the exam. 
  • Take time to emphasize the PTE exam pattern. Learn and understand the question structure. Focus on the new areas.
  • Note the marking pattern; all the answers are checked through computers. Hence, the possibility of inaccuracy is unlikely.
  • Make sure to choose proper resources. All resources that claim to yield a hundred per cent guaranteed success can be misleading. Thus, make sure to verify each resource before starting to prepare.
  • Always make a point to explore the official website and lookup for trusted sources of resources.
  • If needed, go for a coaching session. There are plenty of PTE coaching centres that offer valuable educational resources. The faculty is well-equipped to meet recent PTE standards.
