Osmania University grading system is based on the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) in undergraduate courses which will help students to convert their grade points to grades.
The Osmania University grading system helps students to understand the criteria for evaluation as they follow the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) in which awards of grades is given like 85-100% marks range will have an O grade with a grade point of 10, 70 to <85% will have an A grade with 9-grade points and so on.

Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) under Osmania University Grading System
Below are the guidelines mentioned regarding the Osmania University grading system for the candidates for the CBCS in UG courses. The University follows Choice-Based Credit System in all their departments.
- Beginning with the 2016–17 academic year, all UG Departments in the faculties of Science, Social Sciences, Arts, and Commerce of the constituent and associated institutions of OU must take part in the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
- Internal Evaluation Exams, assignments, etc. are used in the CBCS system to continuously evaluate students during all semesters.
- Each UG program's course options are customized to the evolving demands of business, the labor market, and societal concerns.
- Each paper or course has a set number of credits; a student's grades are translated into grade points and credit points. A student's performance in a semester is evaluated by their Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA), and their overall performance across all six semesters of their undergraduate degree is evaluated by their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
Osmania University Grading System Awards
As per the Osmania University grading system, the grade letter is a measure of a student's performance in a particular course (Paper). It is the conversion of the actual grades a student received for a course or paper. A Grade letter of O, A, B, C, D, E, or F represents it.
Each Grade Letter has a range of grades. If a student misses an exam, the grade letter Ab is substituted in the memo for the grade letter. According to the grading system in Osmania University grades are given in a course or paper, and Grade Point gives each grade letter a certain amount of weight.

Osmania University Improvement of Grades
Below are the rules for the candidates for their improvement of grades as per the Osmania University grading system. This will help candidates to retake the exam and improve their grades and they can score better than before.
- A student who has passed a theoretical paper may retake it once for a chance at a higher mark. Such improved grades, however, will not be taken into account for the award of a prize, medal, rank, or distinction.
- A student will not be permitted to raise their grade on a project, a seminar, or an internal assessment as per the grading system in Osmania University.
- The University will administer the Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC) semester-end examination, and the results will be included in the CGPA and SGPA calculations.
Osmania University Re-Admission Rules
Below are the eligibility criteria mentioned for the candidates who are planning to take re-admission to Osmania University. Candidates can retake admission based on several criteria like low attendance or some medical reasons.
- A candidate who is held back because of low attendance.
- A candidate who is detained because they failed to pass the necessary number of papers.
- A student who has completed a semester but has not moved on to the following one due to personal or medical reasons.
- A student who failed to register for the exam but had at least 40% attendance may apply for re-admission during the same semester.
- A past T.C. student who has returned to the class to re-enroll.
Re-admission is allowed in the aforementioned situations within three years. For students taking T.C., university approval is necessary. There will be no readmissions beyond the deadline (4th week in a 15-week semester).
Osmania University Duration of Courses
Below is the duration of courses mentioned for the candidates as per the Osmania University grading system for the courses they opt to pursue in their careers. The University has a three-four year duration for an undergraduate course and a two-year duration for a postgraduate course.
- After being enrolled, a student has three years to complete the course.
- If the curriculum is changed, students may retake the exam using the previous curriculum for a maximum of five years after admission.
- A student enrolled in a six-semester (three-year course) has five years to finish the course.
Attendance Rules for Osmania University
Below are the attendance criteria mentioned for the candidates who will be appearing for the Osmania University exams. The minimum attendance criteria in every semester have to be 75% of all the lectures.
- Candidates who are appearing for any semester examination as regular students are required to attend 75% of the lectures given and the practical classes held separately in each subject of the course syllabus.
- On the specific recommendation of the Principal or Head of the Department, the Vice-Chancellor may, in exceptional circumstances and with sufficient justification, excuse a 10% absence for medical reasons, subject to the production of a medical certificate and payment of a "condonation fee" as set forth by the University.
Final Merit List of Osmania University
Below are the criteria mentioned for making the final merit list of candidates who appeared for the Osmania University exams.
- The University will only provide the final merit list of the top three applicants in the order of merit following the main exam of the final semester for the DDP programme, based on the combined performance of all the semesters as per the Osmania University grading system.
- The top three candidates who earned at least a first division and completed all semesters in a single attempt will be listed on the merit list.
