Placements and Internships

4

I have done 2 internships personally, but none of them has been through college. However, it gave me a slight edge as i was from MIT when i was hired for internships. There was no stipend for both of them. I got an offer through campus placements but i rejected it later. It was a 6-month internship from ClearTax and they were offering 15,000 rupees plus additional benefits (5000 rupees).

There are lots of big companies that come to our campus. Amazon, Deloitte, Tata, Fiat, Bosch, Hyundai Mobis, Ather Energy, Accenture, TCS, Royal Enfield, HP, P&G etc. Most of these companies hired for marketing and sales roles, however, core companies came for tech-specific roles.

However, it finally depends on the branch you're in. Like since i was in Automobile, companies like Tata and Fiat made us not eligible but they allowed Mechanical students for their selection process.

Average salary figures for my branch ranged from 2.8L p.a to 8L p.depending on the company. So for an average estimate, i would say 5L p.a. For Automobile branch, in particular, the history of our placement record hasn't been great. It was a mere 10%, but this year(2019) it increased to 40%. Not just our branch, but the overall placement for the entire college has been fruitful.

The only Alumnus that everyone talks about is Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostels you are allocated here are only based on merit and this is something i think the college should change, as students should be allowed to freely choose whichever hostel they are comfortable with. However, the rooms are pretty good. The non AC rooms are very spacious and it gives you a very homey feeling with very clean surroundings. The AC rooms, although a bit small have a very luxurious feel to it. I stayed in an AC room for a semester and it felt like i was staying in a hotel.

The fees per year range from 80,000 (for non-ac rooms) to 1,50,000 (for ac rooms).

There are many options for staying outside the campus as well. There are PG's, Apartments, Hostels etc. I am not too sure of the rates outside the campus as i have never stayed outside, but the monthly rent for one of my friends living in an apartment was 18,000.

There are lots of options if you're looking for food on campus. You have to join the mess compulsorily in your 1st year and it wasn't that great to be honest because the food becomes repetitive. But when i visited the mess recently, i found their food better than what it was before, so they have gradually improved. There are many other messes and canteens within the campus and they range from North Indian food to South Indian food.

The mess fees per year were 40,000.

The quality of the classrooms here was really amazing. I was really surprised when i stepped into my class for the first time, as it was huge and lit and the furniture was brand new. We have a huge library within the campus, there is a huge sports arena called Marena just outside the campus and this was the most incredible building I've ever seen in my life. Especially for a sports complex, it exceeded my expectations as I'm an athlete myself. The campus houses 3 huge grounds for football, cricket and hockey.

The labs here are extremely well maintained and are filled with equipment. For us especially, we could work on various car parts and get a lot of hands-on experience.

There is Wifi for each and every student who stays in the hostel. The speed is usually 1mbps and a limit of 30gb per month after which you will have to pay for the additional package.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

The eligibility criteria for me when i had applied for Manipal University in 2016 was a minimum of 60% in my 11th and 12th. The admission procedure involved applying online for the entrance test (MUOET) by filling the application form and paying a certain amount of money (about 1000 rupees).

I only took the MUOET and it was for 200 marks at that time with no negative marking and the test was for 3 hours.

There were no cutoffs as such, but you needed a good rank to get a good branch choice in the college, so i would say get around 100+ and it should be fine. I got 113 and my rank was 10,000, so the competition is pretty tough.

Academics and Faculty

4

The daily routine followed in college is pretty chill actually. There's no fixed timetable every day for classes as the timings change every day. However a normal full day would be from 8 am to 5 30pm with 3 breaks in between, 10 am to 10 30am, 11 30 or 12 30pm to 1 pm or 2 pm and 3 pm to 3 30pm on some days.

The quality and method of teaching is really good with optimal use of projectors and blackboards, with lots of labs.

I would say that the overall experience is great in college, with a variety of facilities offered to students

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

Manipal Institute of Technology Fee Structure. Fees of Manipal Institute of Technology ranges from 3.1L to 3.9L per year.

It differs each year based on the subjects.

Scholarship options are available only if you score extremely well in the entrance test, i.e. the top 5000 ranks for example.

I'm not too sure about the number of students who get the scholarship.

Clubs and Associations

5

There are a number of different clubs on campus and they hold recruitments every semester for interested students. There are technical as well as non technical clubs. The various technical clubs are, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Robotics club, Formula racing club, Offroad racing club, Rover club, Artificial satellite club etc. The various non technical clubs were, dramatics club, dance club, music club, arts club etc.

There are 2 main fests that occur in campus, Techtatva and Revels

Techtatva is a technical fest where colleges around India come to participate in various events held by our college. There are events like RC car racing, drone racing, Battlecar wars, obstacle courses etc

Revels is a non tech fest where colleges come to  participate in events held by college. There are events like Battle of the bands, Dance competitions, singing, memory games etc.

The life in Manipal is really chill. Since it is a student town, it is filled with a young crowd and you get a lot of freedom to do whatever you want. The rules are not strict at all, especially if you stay outside campus.
