Placements and Internships

3

  • The college does have a placement cell that organizes pre-placement training sessions to help clear the aptitude tests.
  • MCC also have a final test which you need to take and clear before you can be eligible to apply for interviews to particular companies that would be visiting the campus for placements.
  • I would be very honest about this , if you are from science background there is hardly any scope of placement for you. However, for students from commerce, statistics, economics background or BBA do get recruited in bulk.
  • The companies which frequent the campus for placements are usually EY, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, DE Shaw and co., KPMG etc.
  • Starting salary figures usually, range from 3 - 3.5 LPA.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

2.5

  • There are 2 hostels at MCC, one for undergraduates and one for postgraduate students. I stayed in the UG hostel for three years and I had a good enough experience. The fees for one year is around Rs.79,000 (including mess fees). As for maintenance, both hostels are well maintained and cleaned regularly. However, individual rooms need to be cleaned by the respective occupants. Also, at the end of the year, the hostel needs to be completely vacated. So unless you have a local guardian or a place where you can hoard up your belongings during the summer break, I'd suggest opting for other accommodation.
  • The hostel provides WiFi and a computer room for the benefit of the students.
  • Coming to the canteen, mess, and food - I will be honest they aren't great, inexpensive but not great. The food is really boring and monotonous, not entirely unpalatable but nothing to die for.
  • In case someone wants to look for accommodation outside the campus, the lane opposite to the college has a number of PGs which are pretty good.
  • As for the food, there are plenty of eateries and good joints on that very Lane.
  • Besides there are tiffin systems available which one find out from their fellow PG mates or other students who have been living in that area for a while.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • I have completed my graduation from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore with a triple major in Microbiology, Chemistry, and Botany. I shall begin the review with how I got admission followed by my opinion of the kind of college life I got to experience.
  • Admissions are usually done on the basis if a cutoff mark that is set every year. For science it is usually between 75-80 and the admission is usually on a first come first serve basis.
  • As long as seats are available and you have the required cut , you can get a hassle free straight admission.
  • In case you don't have the required cut off marks there might be an exception if you have a genuine reason, but that totally depends on what the administration thinks about it.

Academics and Faculty

4.5

  • Now MCC has a triple majors pattern, that is you don't get an honours degree in one particular paper but you get three majors in all the three subjects that you have chosen.
  • Pros of this system - offers greater flexibility of subjects when opting for post graduation. Cons- it is a little pressurising to handle six major papers(2 for each subject) in each of your last two semesters (that is, in final year).
  • Academics is taken very seriously and teachers are more than ready to help always, and they always go beyond themselves to make us understand and finish portions on time.
  • One shortcoming would be the library which does not have a very great collection of books. However, in most cases , class notes are quite sufficient.
  • Class timings are usually from 8:30 am - 3 pm . For BBA and B.Com students it is up to 2 pm.
  • The students are assessed throughout the year. There are two continuous internal assessments per semester, along with projects and assignments, following up to the final semester exam.
  • Overall college life experience is great at MCC. The crowd is great and is highly multicultural, so blending in with them is never a problem.
  • There are a plethora of academic and extracurricular clubs and events going on throughout the year, which is why it is never monotonous. Something or the other is always happening, and being a part of these does really provide an enriching experience.

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

  • The course fee is not very high. For basic sciences it usually ranges from 30k-40k per year ( including tuition, lab fees, and all other kinds of charges ), for humanities, it would is usually between 30k-35k.
  • Some of the expensive courses are FAD ( Fashion and Apparel Design ) ( the fees is usually in the range of 70k-80k PA) , BBA and b.com industry integrated ( both of them have annual fees of around 50k-60k ).
  • Students do get the scholarship, but it is rarely based on merit.
  • Caste based scholarships, scholarships for the needy students and for the minority communities are available and can be availed by applying at the office with relevant documents.

Clubs and Associations

5

  • This is the best thing about the college - the extracurriculars.
  • MCC has a plethora of academic and cultural clubs ( 51 clubs and associations if I am not wrong ) and almost throughout the year some fest or event is going on which makes the campus happening all year round.
  • It has everything starting from Indian music, Western music, Indian dance, Street dance, Western dance, Debate, MUN, Photography, Editorial team, Drama troupe, anything that you name.
  • Also, whenever there is an event, there are a lot of beautiful stalls, games, flea markets, food trucks. It is basically gala time.
  • Last, but not the least, MCC's annual fest CULAH is one the biggest and most happening college fests in Bangalore. The highlight is the fashion show which is really worth watching ( our fashion team Rocks :D ). It is 3 days of pure fun and something you will never forget.
