Placements and Internships

4.5

  • I am currently interning as a Data Scientist at Unnati Data Labs, in Bangalore with an educational stipend of Rs. 8000/- for a period of 2 months.
  • The key companies that come are MuSigma, Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon, Myntra and many more. Although mostly technical, there are several finance companies like JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity Investments, etc that come too and offer handsome packages.
  • The average salary package for the year 2015 was about 12 lpa and the highest package was 45 lpa.
  • The alumni network is a closely knit one and they are always ready to extend support to students of their college, may it be financially or otherwise.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

  • There is a big campus for hostels and it is known as the Girls' Block. Within the Girls' Block, there are about 5 hostels where students reside based on single/twin/triple sharing depending on which year they are in. The hostels are decent in terms of facilities, cleanliness and hygeine although sometimes water shortages and power cuts are experienced in the summer months.
  • Hardly any PG's are available as most students prefer to stay in college hostels or otherwise have their own houses around the place.
  • There are two messes in the Girls' Block and both of them have commendable food, as compared to hostel messes, generally. The variety of food and hygiene maintained must be given due credits. These meals cost anything between Rs. 30-50 a meal. Apart from the hostel messes there are eateries in and around the campus, although there is not much variety there.
  • Classrooms are spacious and ventilated, but most faculties do not use the mic and hence are hardly audible unless we occupy the front benches. The library has a vast collection although most books are technical. The messes are maintained impeccably clean. WiFi is provided only in certain areas of the campus. The sports facilities are good, with standard sized courts for most sports like basketball, tennis, football and badminton. Also there is an olympic size swimming pool for the students to use.

Academics and Faculty

2

  • Class timings are very relaxed, we have about 25-29 hours a week, including labs. Enough projects are given to enable and enhance learning. Standards of assignments and exams are good and the questions make us wonder and think out of the box.
  • Method of teaching and syllabus is very obsolete. With new technologies coming into existence each passing day, there needs to be a simultaneous upgrade of curriculum as well. Quality of teaching is average.
  • Overall experience is great. A lot of peer group learning motivates and encourages us to step out of our comfort zone and venture into the world of the unknown to gain more and more insight in the fields we are interested in.

Fees and Scholarships

4

  • Course fee per year is about INR 1.4 lakhs, including accomodation, food and tution fees. Fee varies depending on which year you are in. And it increases with every new batch of students coming in. But there is a huge fee waiver for the students who belong to the SC/ST category.
  • There is a merit cum means scholarship for students who come from low income groups. Also, there is a one-time scholarship for meritorious students who have secured within 2000 in the JEE main examination on a national level.
  • About 50-60 students avail the merit cum means scholarship every year and the merit scholarship is awarded to every student within an all India rank of 2000.

Clubs and Associations

4.5

  • There are many societies that are by and for students. Some noted ones are IEEE, ACM, ISTE, SPICMACAY, Artist's Forum, Dance Crew, NITK Racing team, Music Club, Photography Club, Amateur Astronomy Club, E-Cell, etc.
  • The main technical festival is called ENGINEER, where each branch conducts many events relating to their branch. Major cultural festivals are Panache(Inter-branch), Crescendo(Inter-year cultural and sports) and the main inter-college 4-day cultural festival, INCIDENT. An intra-college business fest called Enterprise also happens every year, which is organised by the business club, E-Cell. There are several other intra-college technical fests conducted by every technical club in the college.
  • College life is a wonderful experience. The events and exposure that the college offers is immensely satisfying and every student who comes out is definitely a wiser and a more confident individual.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : A student should qualify in JEE mains examination and score more than 75% in their second PUC board examination, and if he/she belongs to Karnataka, he/she can claim home state quota. The entrance exam scores accepted are JEE Mains, NEET-UG, and K-CET. If a student belongs to the home state and OBC, they should get an all India rank below 10,000 in the JEE Mains examination.

Fees & Scholarships : The fees is a little expensive for a government funded college so a consideration should be given to the economically weaker section

Academics & Faculty : Regarding timings, projects, exams and assignments everything is alright. But while coming to teaching part, some of the subjects are being taught by M.Tech graduates and they are not upto the mark.
