Placements and Internships

4.5

  • Talking of my internship experience, I did my internship as Software Development Engineer Intern in a company in Hyderabad with a monthly stipend of 14,000 INR.
  • Coming to the most important section, Placements and Internships, IIT Mandi provides you with a secure future after you bachelors. Majority of the big and famed companies visit the campus for placements and internhship opportunities. From Flipkart, Ebay, Microsoft for Computer Science students, HPCL, L&T, Tata Motors, Tejas Networks and many others for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering departments.
  • Average salary goes as high as Rs 10-12 lakhs per annum for around 80-85% of the batch getting placed.
  • It's too early to talk our alumini network as ours is a new college, but whatever seniors we have, have marked their presence in almost every big firm and university when it comes to research and related fields.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

  • Each hostel has got a common room with almost every facility one can think of, TT tables, microwave, TV, etc. Currently more than 10 hostels are being used for the accommodation with 2 messes functioning. Hostels being built with updated technology and most luxurious facilities are one of the best parts of the campus.
  • Food is quite decent with daily diet costing only INR 98.
  • Classrooms are equipped with high-class equipments and provide an excellent experience. With top-notch labs of every field that is required and a well-maintained students get all kind of exposure that they need. The campus of IIT Mandi located amongst one of the most beautiful places in Hiamchal just on the banks of the river Uhl, is one of a kind.

Academics and Faculty

4.5

  • IIT Mandi is one of the finest colleges in India when it comes to academics. It being an IIT is already a part of an elite group of institutions. Talking of faculty here, they need to have a Ph.D at least to be recruited here and they follow an interactive method of teaching to help the students throught the process. The classes are generally timed between 8AM and 5PM with weekly assignments and exams thrice a semester. All major courses have a project associated with them that the students need to finish by the end of the semester. Students are given the freedom to choose majority of the courses according to their interests and many students opt for a semester exchange in other universities too, in Germany, Sweden and Denmark majorly as the college provides a chance for the same. Apart from B.Tech, IIT Mandi has M.Tech, M.S, M.Sc, and Ph.D as other domains for the students.
  • Overall I would say that this is a fine institute to come to and have your academic future taken care of.

Fees and Scholarships

5

  • IIT Mandi comes under MHRD department of our country and hence the education is subsidized for the most part. The students need to pay around 1,60,000 INR per year to cover their whole expense here, hostels and mess expenses included.
  • Scholarships are provided to students depending on their family's annual income and many students avail this option and are facilitated by it.
  • Around 40% of the students are able to avail this facility.
  • And if any kind of loans are required, banks like SBI, PNB and many others are more than happy to do so.

Clubs and Associations

4.5

  • IIT Mandi has got all kind of clubs and societies be it technical or cultural. Just to name a few Website and Networks Group, Robotics Club, Energy Club on technical side, Dramatics Section, Music club, Dance section on cultural side and Photography and Art Geeks club and Literay Section, students get all kind of exposure they can think of in the field they are interested in.
  • Exodia, the annual tech-cult festival is the main festival on campus, followed by Rann-Neeti, the annual sports festival and many other Intra-college festivals keep happening from time to time.
  • To anyone you ask on campus on how's life at IIT Mandi, you'll get unanimous answer, Awesome. I guess that describes it all.

Academics & Faculty : All the classes and labwork at Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Mandi takes place between 8 AM and 6 PM, although sometimes professors tend to keep the classes as late has 9 PM too, when the syllabus lacks behind the schedule. Most of the courses involve assignments or projects or both. Each theory lecture is of 50 minutes duration followed by a 10 minutes break. Each semester, students have to write 2 Quizzes and one End-Sem exam for each course, which becomes quite tiresome. The quality of teaching depends from one branch to the other and also, from one teacher to the other. Most of the faculties are highly qualified and motivated towards teaching. At the end, it's the student who is supposed to put in the efforts. The overall academic experience is average for CSE students, as many of them don't learn much required CS courses during their 4 years B.Tech. degree. It's below average for EE and ME students.

Academics & Faculty : Quality of academics is on par with the other older IITs. But the shortage of good faculty is a con. Some of the courses were offered through NKN from the older IITs, though a bit ineffective it partially addressed the issue.
