What is RBI Grade B Exam?

The Reserve Bank of India employs professionals across various departments to handle the internal functioning of the organization. RBI will conduct Grade B examination #yearto recruit eligible candidates for the following posts: Officers in Grade B (General) - DR, DEPR and DSIM in Common Seniority Group (CSG) streams.

  • Stages: The recruitment drive can be divided into Prelims, Mains and Interview. Candidates will be considered eligible for the 2nd and 3rd round of selection only if they qualify the previous one.
  • Mode of exam: RBI Grade B Exam is conducted in both online and offline modes depending upon the post in concern.
  • Eligibility for recruitment: The eligibility can be divided based on age, nationality and academic qualification. The criteria will vary according to the posts.

RBI Grade B Exam Dates

The application window will be functional as and when the official notification has been released. Candidates can start applying from the month of May 2019. The last date to fill the application form will be notified when the official notification is released. RBI Grade B 2019 exam date will be announced on the official website.

RBI Grade B Eligibility

RBI sets eligibility criteria for RBI Grade B Exam. Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility criteria in order to apply for the RBI Grade B post. If candidates fail to satisfy then the application form will be rejected. The eligibility can be divided into the following categories:

Nationality

A candidate must be any of the following:

  • must be a citizen of India, or
  • must be a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
  • must be a Tibetan refugee, permanently settled in India prior to January 1, 1962, or
  • a subject of Indian origin who migrated from either Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam having the intention to reside in India permanently.

Note that the applicants belonging to any of the (b), (c), and (d) category, must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification

Requirement of educational qualification for the different post is different. Following are the prescribed eligibility criteria for the various posts:

Officers in Grade B (DR) – DEPR The candidate must possess a Master's Degree in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course/ Finance, obtaining at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. 5% of relaxation in aggregate score will be provided for reserved category candidates.
Officers in Grade B (DR) - DSIM The candidate must have obtained a Master's Degree in Statistics/Mathematical Economics/Mathematical Statistics/Statistics & Informatics/Econometrics from IIT-Kharagpur or Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay scoring a minimum of 55% aggregate marks considering all semester/years or any grade equivalent to the above; ORThe candidate must have obtained a Master's Degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate considering all semester/years and 1-year PG Diploma in Statistics or related subjects from a recognised and well-known institute; ORA M. Stat. degree holder from Indian Statistical Institute obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate considering all semesters/years; ORA PG Diploma holder in Business Analytics (PGDBA) jointly offered and administrated by ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate considering all semesters/years or an equivalent grade. Age

  • Upper & Lower Limit: All applicants must be at least 21 years to be eligible to apply. However, an applicant cannot be more than 30 years of age on May 1st, 2019. If the candidates are M.Phil. or Ph.D., the upper age limit will be relaxed to 32 and 34 years respectively.
  • Relaxation: All reserved category candidates are entitled to age relaxation. The exact amount of relaxation will be based on the Government of India norms.

Number of Attempts

For general category candidates, the maximum limit for application is 6 whereas there are no such restrictions for other categories of candidates.

RBI GRADE B 2019 will be conducted for recruiting the following officers: Officers in Grade B (General) - DR, DEPR and DSIM in Common Seniority Group (CSG) streams. The exact number of vacancies will be notified in the official RBI Grade B 2019 notification.

RBI Grade B Application Form

The RBI Grade B 2019 Application Form is expected to release in 1st week of May 2019. Candidates can fill the RBI Grade B Application Form at the official website of RBI. All applications must be submitted online on the official website. There is no provision for offline application.

Applicants for posts in both Gr. B (DR)-General and Gr B (DR) DEPR / DSIM will be required to apply separately for each of these positions. Also, the application fees must be paid separately for the posts.

How to fill the RBI Grade B 2019 Application Form?

The steps to apply for the RBI Grade B Exam is given below:

  • Step 1: The candidates must visit the official website, www.rbi.org.in. Once on the website they should navigate and click on the link “Recruitment for the post of Officers in Gr. B (DR) General/DEPR/DSIM”.
  • Step 2: The Application links for Gr B -(DR)-General and DEPR/DSIM will be displayed separately. In case of a fresh registration, the candidate must choose the tab "Click here for New Registration" and provide details of your name, contact and email-id.
  • Step 3: Once registered, a provisional registration number and password will be generated by the system.
  • Step 4: The above particulars will be sent to the registered candidate via email & SMS on the very ID and number provided by them during the registration process.
  • Step 5: Once done, fill the remaining fields with the required information.
  • Step 6: After this point, the candidate must upload scanned images of their recent passport sized photograph and signature of the following specifications:

  • Step 7: Now, the candidates will be required to pay the application fee using Debit/Credit Cards, Internet Banking, Cash Cards/Mobile Wallets.
  • Step 8: Once the fee has been paid, the candidate must obtain and preserve the ‘e-receipt’ as proof.
  • Step 9: Lastly, choose "Save and Next" once you have verified all the details entered.

Note:

Candidates are advised to obtain a printout of duly filled RBI Grade B Exam Application Form for reference purpose. Note that there will not be any Application Form Correction window, so all details must be entered carefully.

There will not be any refund for the fee paid. Application fee charges waiver will be applicable only for the RBI Staff who meet specific eligibility criteria.

RBI Grade B Admit Card

Candidates who register successfully on the official website, RBI will issue their admit card. The RBI Grade B Admit Card is expected to be released two weeks prior to the conduction of the exam. Candidates will have to visit the official website of RBI to download admit card of both the Prelims and Main exams. In case of any discrepancies in the information printed on the admit card, candidates must notify the authority immediately.

How to download RBI Grade B Admit Card?

Refer to the steps below to download the admit card.

  • Step 1: Candidates need to visit RBI GRADE 'B' official website.
  • Step 2: For downloading the RBI Grade 'B' 2019 Admit Card, candidates are required to enter their Application Number and Date of Birth as the password.
  • Step 3: Click on the 'Submit' button to download the Admit Card. Take a printout of the same for future reference.

Note: 

RBI Grade B Admit Card of Phase I will be provided to those candidates who are eligible for the Exam. RBI Grade B Admit Card of Phase II will be issued to those candidates who get shortlisted for Phase II exam after qualifying the Phase I exam.

RBI Grade B Admit Card of Interview or call letter will be issued to those candidates shortlisted for the interview round and same will be sent to the candidate's e-mail ID.

Documents to be carried for RBI Grade B Exam

Following documents are required to be carried by the candidates to the exam centre on exam day.

  • Along with the admit card, candidates will be required to carry a valid Photo ID proof issued by the Government of India or the State Government (original as well as a photocopy) for verification at the examination centre.

RBI Grade B Exam Pattern

RBI Exam Pattern is different for Preliminary and Mains Examination. Candidates obtaining equal or more than the qualifying marks in the preliminary exam will be deemed eligible to write the main examination.

Total Questions: The test will have a total of 200 questions.

Type: All questions asked will be objective in nature and multiple choice type.

Duration: Candidates will be given 2 hours to finish the test.

Questions asked: The questions will be set from the following disciplines: Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning.

Total Marks: All 200 questions will carry 1 mark each which adds to a total of 200 marks.

RBI Grade B Main Exam Pattern

The questions asked will be provided with multiple choices (MCQ). There will be a subjective question section as well. The main exam will be conducted only for the candidates who qualify in the preliminary exam.

Questions asked: The questions will be set from the following disciplines: Economic and Social Sciences, English, Finance, and Management

Type: There will be both objective and subjective type questions in the main examination.

Medium of paper: Other than English, the question paper section for other subjects will be set bilingually (Hindi and English).

Duration: Candidates will be provided 1 hour and 30 minutes for completing every section.

Correct response: For every correct response, the applicants will be awarded 1 mark.

RBI Grade B Exam Results

RBI will declare the RBI Grade B Result as a list of selected candidates. Scorecards will not be issued for qualifying candidates. Marks obtained in RBI Grade B Examination 2019 Phase-I(prelims) will be released on the official website. And the marks obtained in Phase-II(main) exam and Interview will be published on the bank's website once the results for the same have been declared.

  • Only those who obtain the minimum marks as prescribed by the Board in Phase I will qualify to appear in Phase II or main examination.
  • Scores obtained by the candidates in various stages of RBI Grade B Exam 2019 will undergo normalization using the percentile method.
  • Candidates have to secure minimum marks separately for each test as well as in aggregate, as may be prescribed by the Board.
  • The list of candidates shortlisted for Phase-II exam will be notified on the official website within a week of Phase-I exam.
  • Candidates who qualify for subsequent rounds would be sent notifications via E-mail/SMS to download Admission Letters or Interview Call Letters.

RBI Grade B Selection Process

There are three steps for RBI Grade B Recruitment:

  • Step 1: The first step is the Preliminary Exam. All the candidates who successfully submitted the application form and satisfy the eligibility criteria can attend the exam.
  • Step 2: The 2nd step is the Main Exam. Candidates who can cross the preliminary exam cutoff marks will be qualified for the Main exam.
  • Step 3: The 3rd step is the interview. Candidates who will score the minimum cutoff marks in both the exam will be qualified for the Interview process. 
    • Candidates obtaining equal or more than cut off prescribed for the Main exam will be shortlisted for the interview based on the total score secured in Phase-II Exam.
    • The board will finalize the final cut-off score and notify the test-takers.
    • After the results of the main exam have been declared, a list of candidates selected for the interview will be published on the official website and interview call letters will be sent to the candidates on their registered email ID.
    • The interview will be conducted for a total of 50 marks. 
    • Candidates can either appear for the interview in Hindi or English.
    • The final selection will involve a merit list prepared by the Board by adding Main exam score and interview marks secured by the candidates.

    Officers in Grade B (DR) – DEPR The candidate must possess a Master's Degree in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course/ Finance, obtaining at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade.
    Officers in Grade B (DR) - DSIM The candidate must have obtained a Master's Degree in Statistics/Mathematical Economics/Mathematical Statistics/Statistics & Informatics/Econometrics from IIT-Kharagpur or Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay scoring a minimum of 55% aggregate marks considering all semester/years or any grade equivalent to the above
    • Age: All applicants must be at least 21 years to be eligible to apply. However, an applicant cannot be more than 30 years of age on May 1st, 2019.
