RBI Grade B 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to apply for RBI Grade B post. If candidates fail to satisfy then the application form will be rejected. RBI Grade B Eligibility criteria can be divided into the following categories:

RBI Grade B 2023 Nationality

A candidate must be any of the following:

  • must be a citizen of India, or
  • must be a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
  • must be a Tibetan refugee, permanently settled in India before January 1, 1962, or
  • a subject of Indian origin who migrated from either Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam having the intention to reside in India permanently.

Note: Applicants belonging to any of the (b), (c), and (d) category, must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

RBI Grade B 2023 Educational Qualification

The requirement of educational qualification for the different posts is different. The following are the prescribed eligibility criteria for the various posts.

  • Officers in Grade B (DR) - (General): Candidate must have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate for all semesters/years (50% for SC/ST/PWD) or any grade equivalent to the above in Bachelor’s degree/12th (or Diploma or equivalent) and 10th board examinations.
  • Officers in Grade B (DR) – DEPR: Candidate must possess a Master's Degree in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course/ Finance, obtaining at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. 5% of relaxation in aggregate score will be provided for reserved category candidates.
  • Officers in Grade B (DR) - DSIM: Candidate must have obtained a Master's Degree in Statistics/Mathematical Economics/Mathematical Statistics/Statistics & Informatics/Econometrics from IIT-Kharagpur or Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay scoring a minimum of 55% aggregate marks considering all semester/years or any grade equivalent to the above.
    • Or the candidate must have obtained a Master's Degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate considering all semester/years and 1-year PG Diploma in Statistics or related subjects from a recognized and well-known institute.
    • Or M. Stat. degree holder from Indian Statistical Institute obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate considering all semesters/years.
    • Or RA PG Diploma holder in Business Analytics (PGDBA) jointly offered and administrated by ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate considering all semesters/years or an equivalent grade. 

RBI Grade B 2023 Age Limit

The RBI Grade B eligibility norms for age limit for RBI Grade B is:

  • Upper & Lower Limit: All applicants must be at least 21 years to be eligible to apply. However, an applicant cannot be more than 30 years of age on May 1st, 2023. If candidates are M.Phil. or Ph.D., the upper age limit will be relaxed to 32 and 34 years respectively.

Number of Attempts

For general category candidates, the maximum limit for application is 6 whereas there are no such restrictions for other categories of candidates as per the RBI Grade B eligibility. This means that if a candidate has attempted the Phase I exam six times, then he or she is not eligible to apply, this is regarding a general candidate.

As per candidates belonging to the reserved category such as ST/SC/OBC/PwD/EWS, they are eligible to apply as many times as they see fit. There are no restrictions for the reserved category candidates as per the RBI Grade B eligibility.

RBI Grade B 2023 Exam Centres

For RBI Grade B Examination 2023, applicants will be required to provide one choice each for the preliminary and mains exam. A "First-come-first-serve" basis will be used for the allotment of RBI Grade B Exam Centers in 2023. Candidates must choose the centre of choice during applying as there are limited seats in most of the centres. If the first choice is not available the candidate must choose the immediate next one that is available according to their convenience. The exam centres for both the preliminary and the mains is likely to differ. Preliminary and mains exam is expected to be conducted across 36 States and Union Territories. A total of 152 exam cities will be available for the exam centres selection for the candidates.

For the Stage-II Mains Exam, there are a total of 20 cities that will be available for the selection as test centres.

RBI Grade B 2023 Exam Pattern

RBI Exam Pattern is different for Phase I & Phase II Examination. Candidates must not take calculators, pages or sheets, other electronic devices, etc to the examination hall. Candidates are instructed to carry a ball-point pen and will be provided with extra sheets for rough work.

RBI Grade B 2023 Exam will be composed of three phases; Phase-I will be the Preliminary Test, Phase-II will be Mains Test, and Phase-III will be the Interview round. Both tests of RBI Grade B 2023 Exam will be held online.

RBI Grade B Selection Process

There are three steps for RBI Grade B Recruitment:

Step 1: The first step is the preliminary Exam. All candidates who successfully submitted their application and satisfy eligibility criteria can attend the exam.

Step 2: The second step is the Mains Exam. Candidates who can cross the preliminary exam cut off marks will be qualified for the Main exam.

Step 3: The third step is the interview. Candidates who will score minimum cut off marks in both the exam will be qualified for the interview process.

  • Candidates obtaining equal or more than cut off prescribed for the Main exam will be shortlisted for the interview based on the total score secured in Phase-II Exam.
  • Board will finalize the final cut off score and notify the test-takers.
  • After the results of the main exam have been declared, a list of candidates selected for the interview will be published on the official website and interview call letters will also be sent to the candidate's registered E-mail and mobile number via SMS.
  • Final selection will be done on the basis of a merit list prepared by the Board by adding Mains exam score and interview marks secured by the candidates.
