What is IB ACIO Exam?
IB ACIO Exam is conducted for the post of ACIO (Assistant Central Intelligence Officer) and in IB (Intelligence Bureau). The exam is conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). ACIO is a Grade – II, Group – C (Non-gazetted, Non-ministerial), executive post in the IB. It is a very popular exam among the aspirants of security and intelligence jobs.
Number of Posts: IB ACIO 2019 vacancy is expected around 1400 posts are to going to fill for the II-Grade Assistant Intelligence Officer.
Recruitment: The job is known for its rich salary structure and its pay band is INR 9300 to INR 34,800 which varies based on the posting area and the selected candidates will get special security allowances.
Reservation: The reservation is available for the few categories like SC/ST/OBC and Ex-serviceman.
The exam is conducted once in a year and there are three tiers in this exam. Tier 1 consist of a written MCQ test, Tier 2 has an Essay writing and Comprehension test and the Tier 3 consist of Interview.
IB ACIO Job Posting: IB ACIO is a very unpredictable job and one can be posted in any state including border regions. It a very risky job. Hence, on the border areas and in areas with Naxals, female candidates are not posted.
IB ACIO Training: Every batch of ACIO has 750 Joinees. The training centre at Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh has a capacity of only 120 trainees at a time. Therefore, these 750 trainees are split into 6 batches and are sent to training one after the another as batch-wise.
Training stages: In this, the training is classified into there stages and describes as follows.
Training stage 1: SHIVPUR, Madhya Pradesh 60 days of training.
Training stage 2: Delhi Training 60 days.
Training stage 3: On the job training 60 days.

The eligibility condition involves Age, education and knowledge of local languages as criteria. The candidate should satisfy the following eligibility conditions:
Educational Qualification: The candidates who are appearing for the IB ACIO 2019 exam should have completed their graduation from a recognized university or equivalent and the candidates should have some basic computer knowledge.

Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST & by 3 years for OBC candidates. Upper age limit is relaxable for departmental candidates up to 40 years of age who have rendered 3 years of regular & continuous service. This relaxation is applicable only to the Central Govt. Civilian employees.
The IB ACIO 2019 Exam Syllabus consists of four sections. General Awareness, Quantitative aptitude, Analytical/Logical ability and English language are the four sections. The syllabus for each section is as follows:
- General Awareness: This portion has a very vast syllabus that includes History, Physics, Biology, Current Affairs, Politics and Economics.
- Quantitative aptitude: It includes all the topics that are there up to 10 class syllabus of Mathematics in CBSE.
- Logical/Analytical Reasoning: It includes Analogies, similarities and differences, spatial orientation, discrimination, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, observation, spatial visualization, relationship concepts, arithmetic reasoning, verbal and figure and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
- English Language: It includes Grammar Rules, antonyms, synonyms, one-word substitution, idioms & phrases, fill in the blanks, Reading Comprehension/Passage, Cloze Test, Para-Jumble Sentences etc.
Registration for IB ACIO will start from August 12, 2019 (tentatively) and will last till September 2, 2019 (tentatively). The students are asked to fill the form way ahead of time since the conducting body can reschedule the dates at any time.
How to apply for IB ACIO Exam?
The application process consists of the following steps:
- The candidate should visit the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) site i.e www.mha.nic.in. The candidate has to click on the IB ACIO 2019 notification.
- Fill the details in the application form Part I.
- After filling Part I, proceed to part II which consist of Fee payment.
- After payment of fees, the candidate should upload scanned images of his/her photograph and signature
- Click on submit button and take a print out of the application form for future reference.
The IB ACIO 2019 Application form consists of two parts. Part I consist of details that are to be filled in the application form, which includes all personal and academic details. Part II includes the application fee payment portion.
The payment can be done in two modes, online and offline. In online mode Debit card/Credit card/Internet banking is allowed, whereas in offline payment the candidate can pay through Bank Challan. The application fee is different for each category as shown below:
- Males belonging to General/OBC category have to pay Rs. 100.
- Females and candidate belonging to SC/ST Category need not pay anything.
Documents required to apply for IB ACIO
Scanned copies of the following documents are required to be uploaded onto the official website of the MHA:
- A recent photograph of the candidate
Note: These two things are required to be uploaded in a single file, the size of which should be less than 50 KB.
The exam is conducted in 3 stages: Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. Tier 1 is for 100 marks, Tier 2 is for 50 marks and Tier 3 is conducted for 100 marks. Candidates who are able to qualify the Tier 1 exam are only entitled to give the tier 2 exam. Similarly, the candidates who qualify the tier 2 exam will proceed for tier 3 exam.
Tier 1 Exam Pattern
Tier 1 Exam pattern is as follows. There will be four sections with 25 questions each namely: General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical/ Analytical Ability and English Language.

For every wrong answer, ¼ marks will be deducted from each section's total.
In order to qualify for Tier 2 Exam, the candidate is required to score a minimum of 33 marks out of 100.
Tier 2 Exam Pattern
Tier 2 will have essay writing and English comprehension. The total time allotted for this stage is 1 hour.

For Tier 2 Exam, the obtained marks will be converted "out of 100 marks". Candidate is required to score a minimum of 33 marks out of 100.
Tier 3 Exam
On the basis of combined performance in Tier 1 and 2 exams, the candidate will be evaluated for his/her eligibility in the Tier 3 exam (Interview). The date, place and venue for the interview will be communicated to the qualifying candidates.
IB ACIO 2019 Admit card will be releasing on September 29, 2019. The admit card will be available on the official website, and will not be sent through the post. To download the admit card visit the official website and check the link "Careers". Candidates can download the admit card after entering the registered id and password.
The Admit card is available on the IB ACIO official website and can be downloaded up to 10 days before commencement of IB ACIO exam. The admit card contains all the information about the exam & candidates such as the name of the candidate, roll number, application number, exam date & time, exam centre, photo & signature, postal address etc.
How to download the IB ACIO Admit Card?
The steps to download the Admit Card are given as follows:
- Step 1: Go to www.mha.gov.in
- Step 2: Choose the correct link for Admit Card.
- Step 3: Enter your Roll number, Application ID number, and Date of Birth.
- Step 4: Click on the submit button.
- Step 5: After that, download the Admit card and get it printed.
There are 33 exam centre IB ACIO Exam 2019 across the country. The candidate has to choose a single location based on his/ her convenience and preference. The various IB ACIO Exam centres are:
Once opted, the candidate cannot change the exam centre. However, if the seats get completely filled at a particular centre, the nearby centre will be given to the candidate.
Documents Required at the Exam Centre

The IB ACIO 2019 Exam Results of Tier 1 exam will be declared soon. All the results, whether tier 1 or tier 2 or the final result, will be updated on the official website of MHA.
Resolution of tie cases: In the event of a tie in combined scores of candidates in the Tier-I and Tier-II, such cases will be resolved by applying following criteria, one after another, till the tie is resolved:
- Total marks in Tier-I and Tier-II
- Marks in Tier-I
- Marks in Tier-II
- Date of birth, with older candidates, placed higher.
- Alphabetical order of names (starting with the first name)
How to download the IB ACIO Result?
The IB ACIO result can be downloaded in the following way:
- Candidates have to click on the official website of IB ACIO www.mha.gov.in to view their result.
- Once candidates click on the specified link the merit list in a pdf format will be displayed.
- Candidates have to look for their Name or Registration number from the merit list.
- If the candidates find their name in the merit list then the candidates will be called for the further selection process.
The candidate has to clear minimum marks in order to be eligible for the next stage exam. This minimum marks or cutoff depends upon a number of factors like the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the difficulty level of paper and number of seats available.

The candidates have to first appear for the Tier 1 exam which will consist of MCQs and is divided into four sections. After clearing the cutoff for Tier 1, candidates will be proceeding to the Tier 2 test where the candidate has to give two tests in an hour consisting of an essay and a comprehension passage. The combined performance of Tier 1 and 2 exams will decide the candidate's eligibility for Interview. After clearing the interview, merit list will be generated.
If the individual has his/her name in the merit list, he/she will be proceeding for the training for IB ACIO.
How to Prepare for IB ACIO Exam?
In the IB ACIO 2019 Tier 1 Exam, the candidate has to solve 100 questions in 60 minutes, which is a challenging task looking at the difficulty of the questions asked. Thus regular practice and proper time management are the key mantras to clear this exam.
For Tier 2, the candidate should have a good general knowledge and should be aware of the current happenings both inside and outside the country in order to write an essay. Also as the test is now conducted on a computer, a decent typing speed is required in order to finish the essay in time. - Candidates should keep in mind that eligibility is not verified during the application process but at later stages of the admission process. So, the candidate should check eligibility carefully and apply only if he/she fulfils it.
