Said to be the cream of the crop at Delhi University, Shri Ram College of Commerce is a highly competitive institute that is regarded as one of the best colleges in the country for imparting excellence in academics and career prospects in the field of Commerce and Economics. With 100% cut-off marks, getting admission to SRCC is among the biggest dreams of students who aspire to achieve heights in Commerce.

Though it has a disadvantage due to its niche courses, the college has created a legacy of renowned professionals over the years. The college boasts highly educated and experienced faculty members who strive to cultivate well-qualified professionals equipped to excel in the field. The course curriculum imparts relevant knowledge and necessary skills to help students succeed in the corporate world.

Highly Regarded & Rigorous Academics

As mentioned above, SRCC is considered a gem of the Indian commerce education system, and therefore, it only offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Commerce and economics. The education provided by the college forms a strong foundation for students in Finance, Economics, Accounting and Business Management. The advanced curriculums at the college endow students with extensive knowledge and analytical skills for professional roles and research. 

The college's programs and pedagogy equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical applications through case studies and industry exposure. It offers a wide range of electives within the Commerce and Economics disciplines, allowing students to explore the various aspects of these fields.

The prominent undergraduate and postgraduate programs available at SRCC are as follows.

As the college only has the four main courses mentioned above, the quality of education is top-notch notch because all its resources are utilised to improve the quality of these programs and stay relevant in the field. However, the curriculum and syllabus are curated by the central university; therefore, it is the same for all colleges affiliated with Delhi University.

Apart from the traditional bachelor’s and master’s programs, the college also offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGBO), a one-year intensive course designed for professionals pursuing entrepreneurship and business. The main focus of this program is to help students polish their skills in finance, marketing, leadership and marketing management. Students are given opportunities to interact with reputed industry professionals and have real-world experience.

The college offers value-added courses in partnership with reputed institutions across the globe, which are short-period certificate programs designed to help students enhance their knowledge in a particular specialisation.

Course Fee Structure 

The tuition fees for the courses offered by the college are affordable in comparison to the private universities and institutions in the country. Additionally, the course fees vary based on the student's degree level, program and nationality. 

The annual course fees for B.Com (Hons) and BA (Hons) programs are INR 87,735 for Indian students and USD 1070 for international students. The yearly course fees are lower for M.Com and MA students, approximately INR 15,000 for Indian students and USD 180 for international students.

Furthermore, the course fees for the PGBO program are slightly higher than that of the traditional postgraduate programs. Students must pay a sum of INR 80,000 for the one-year program. The tuition fee for the International students for the same course is USD 980.

In addition to the tuition fee, students must pay extra fees for examinations and other miscellaneous expenses, which adds up to INR 4000 per year. The college also offers several scholarships to students based on their merit and economic background. 

Attendance Policy

Students at the college must maintain a minimum attendance of 75% in all subjects to appear for the end-semester examinations and avail of specific benefits, like scholarships, internship opportunities and hostel accommodation. 

Knowledgeable & Finest Professors

According to the experts, SRCC has the best set of professors in the country who are highly qualified and experienced in Commerce. Most professors at the college have authored research papers and textbooks that are used in several colleges. Though the syllabus and curriculum are prescribed by Delhi University, the pedagogy and academics at the college are top-notch due to its highly regarded faculty, who are approachable and dedicated to imparting quality education to the students.

The college is famous for its high-calibre faculty members who are well-respected experts, passionate about their subject and committed to contributing significantly to Commerce. The professors devise diverse teaching methods, some focusing on traditional lecture styles while others use more interactive and engaging methods. Students can easily connect with the professors and clarify their doubts about related topics.

The professors go the extra mile to ensure students understand the complex concepts and encourage students to learn more about the topics that interest them. Even though the concepts and topics for some subjects are complex, the professors use unique methods to make them less challenging for the students. 

As mentioned above, the professors are considered among the best in Asia with their excellent experience and are still working on new research papers. It can be said that professors play a significant role in creating highly educated and qualified professionals in the field.

Modern & Well-Maintained Infrastructure

The college’s infrastructure is considered among the best in the country, with its well-maintained facilities catering to all the students' academic and extracurricular needs. Its infrastructure blends traditional architecture with modern facilities, creating an excellent atmosphere for a memorable campus life and a high-quality education. 

The academic infrastructure at the college is a combination of physical and digital facilities to provide an updated and conducive learning environment. With ample classrooms, the college retains a heritage look with traditional wooden desks and benches. However, the classrooms are air-conditioned, with audio-visual aids to provide an interactive learning experience. 

The central library at the college is a treasure trove of information with its vast collection of books, journals, and electronic resources that provide all the necessary reference materials for its students. The college also has computer labs that consist of the latest technology that students can use to access digital resources.

The library is air-conditioned, with adequate seating areas to accommodate large groups of students. The college is dedicated to maintaining a clean environment that provides a pleasant environment to the students. 

The college provides several facilities in its sports complex, including a large indoor stadium for badminton, basketball, wrestling, etc., and separate chess and table tennis rooms. It also has a multi-purpose ground which doubles as a hockey and football field. It also includes a swimming pool and a well-equipped gymnasium. In other words, the sports complex has the necessary facilities for students interested in football, basketball, hockey, tennis, badminton, volleyball, swimming, athletics, etc. 

Besides the above-mentioned facilities, the college has a fully functional, air-conditioned canteen that can accommodate more than fifty students. The canteen serves a variety of food and beverages at nominal prices. Students spend most of their time at the canteen for its beautiful ambience.

Though the students generally appreciate the infrastructural facilities available at the college, they have mentioned that some classrooms can get crowded due to the number of students and the lack of facilities for research labs. The location of recreational facilities, such as sports and swimming, is also a concern among the students. 

Overall, the college has a well-maintained infrastructure comprising the necessary facilities for its students, despite minor drawbacks. Yet, the students are delighted with the atmosphere and facilities available in the college.

Limited Housing Facilities

The college provides separate housing facilities for boys and girls. Though the hostels are located within the college campus, making it convenient for the students, limited rooms are available, making it crowded and difficult to get hostel allotment. There are only two separate hostels available on the campus.

Both the hostels are well-furnished and have different facilities such as standard rooms, dining halls, mess, laundry facilities and internet connection. All rooms in these hostels are double or triple-occupancy rooms with shared bathroom facilities. The boys’ hostel has only 75 rooms, whereas the girls’ hostel has 120.

The room allotment in these hostels is based on availability and merit. Therefore, it is recommended that students apply for the hostel accommodation way ahead of time to get allotted rooms. However, as the hostels have limited capacities, it is competitive, and admission is not assured. 

Timely food is served through the mess facilities, which are generally clean and hygienic. The food is served in the dining halls within the hostel buildings. Additionally, the safety and security of the students are assured by security guards placed at the gates 24/7.

The hostel fees are nominal compared to the other universities and institutions. It differs based on the room type and occupancy. The semestrial hostel fees for boys and girls are INR 18,000 and INR 22,000, respectively. 

Apart from the on-campus hostel facilities, private hostels and PGs are available around the campus for students who cannot secure hostel accommodation. The rents at the PGs near the college vary depending on the facilities and luxuries provided.

Engaging & Enriching Campus Life

Apart from being a prestigious institution with academic excellence, the college is famous for its diverse and dynamic campus life. The college is renowned for its lively student clubs where students can pursue their interests and hobbies. 

There are several societies for students to participate in, from entrepreneurship to music. These clubs provide students with platforms to develop their personal and professional skills, pursue their passions and connect with like-minded people.

The college organises numerous cultural events, such as theatrical performances, talent shows, movie screenings, etc. The students also celebrate different cultural festivals, providing exposure to the varied cultures and traditions of the country. 

Students also have ample opportunities to pursue sports and games as the college conducts competitions and inter-college tournaments where students can showcase their talents and skills. 

Students have a well-rounded campus experience with many cultural activities and opportunities to indulge in. Though the college has a competitive atmosphere due to its academic rigour, students can relax and have fun with their friends while growing academically and professionally.

Diversity on Campus

As it is one of the best colleges in the country for Commerce subjects, students from all parts of the country constitute the student body. However, the college lacks diversity regarding the number of students from different categories and socioeconomic status. 

As there are no reservation policies and the course fee structure is high compared to the other private institutions, students from less affluent backgrounds find it challenging to acquire admission to the college.

Similarly, the college does not have a balanced ratio of male to female students, as there are more male students. This can be seen as a disadvantage for female students. 

The college has a diverse campus regarding cultures and academic interests, but there are significant differences in caste, gender and socioeconomic representation. However, the college is said to have taken steps to rectify this difference and be more inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds.

Dress Code

The college does not impose any defined uniform or has any strict rules regarding the dress code of students. However, students are expected to dress professionally and appropriately. They must avoid wearing revealing or offensive clothing and be well-groomed and presentable.

Phenomenal Placement Opportunities

Being one of the best colleges for Commerce, SRCC has a strong reputation for providing good placement opportunities, as several prestigious companies and organisations regularly recruit college graduates. According to the previous years’ records, more than 90% of the graduates are successfully placed in top Indian and multinational companies across various sectors. 

The college has built lasting relationships with top recruiters through the years, giving exclusive access to good job and internship opportunities to its students. The dedicated placement cell at the college prepares students for their interviews by providing guidance and conducting training sessions and mock interviews. 

The placement drives, however, are generally competitive, and it might be difficult for the students to acquire their dream jobs due to the limited jobs offered by top companies. Students must polish their knowledge and improve their interpersonal skills to ace job interviews. 

Based on the previous year’s placement records, the highest salary package offered to the students was INR 35 LPA, and the average salary package was INR 13.2 LPA. As the demand for Commerce is increasing, there has been a significant increase in the salary packages offered to students over the years.

Overall Impression of SRCC

It can be concurred that Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is undoubtedly the best commerce college in the country, with its renowned academic excellence and high placement rates speaking volumes about its commitment and the trust it has built in the industry over the years. These factors also make it difficult for students to gain admission to the college as it is highly competitive and demanding.

Though it is among the top institutions in the country, the college has certain drawbacks in terms of its costly fees and limited diversity in the student body. Nevertheless, the college is committed to improving student body diversity and the general awareness of inclusivity.
