National Institute of Science Education and Research,(NISER) Bhubaneswar was established in the year 2006 by the former prime minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh. The institute is intended to be one of the best in the country in the field of basic science and research and is mainly known for its quality education and infrastructure. A primary objective of the Institute is to train and nurture human resources in the Sciences for the knowledge economies of the future. NISER operates under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy. 

It offers a five-year integrated MSc as well as Ph.D. degrees in pure and applied sciences. The National Entrance Screening Test or NEST is a compulsory test for admission to the 5-year Integrated MSc program in basic sciences - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics - at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Procedure


NISER Eligibility Criteria:

The National Entrance Screening Test or NEST is a compulsory test for admission to the 5-year Integrated MSc program in basic sciences - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics - at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar. The table below gives detailed information:

Course Eligibility Criteria 
 Integrated M.Sc
At least 60% marks in total in class 12 examination from any recognized board in India. For SC/ST candidates and for persons with a disability, the minimum requirement is 55%     
M.Sc Ph.D. Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline   
Ph.D.
Masters in any branches of biological sciences including agriculture, bioinformatics, biotechnology, fisheries,
veterinary sciences, and other equivalent courses or masters in Chemistry, physics, mathematics.  

NISER Admission:

The application form has to be filled up online and candidates should follow stepwise instructions mentioned to complete the application submission process. To get admission to the integrated M.Sc program, candidates must need to appear in the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) conducted for admission into the National Institute of Science Education and Research. For admission to the integrated M.Sc+Ph.D. program, candidates need to appear in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST). And for Ph.D. programs, aspirants are required to appear in any of the National Level Eligibility Test such as NET(CSIR-UGC), ICMR, DBT, ICAR, and GATE.
