There is only one hostel for men. This hostel is for the engineering block That is attached to our college. The quality of classrooms and restrooms are really bad.
The main library of the college, called Sri Bharathi Theertha Library is the cynosure of all eyes. Spread over about 10,000 square feet, the library is home to about 47,000 books. Endowed with a mezzanine floor that houses a portion of the library's book racks, the library is centrally air-conditioned and provides a lovely ambience to sit and read.
Meenakshi Sundararajan Auditorium
This mammoth auditorium can seat more than 3000 people. Built with excellent acoustic facilities and audio control room, this auditorium has a balcony area and two green rooms attached. Complete with 30 centralized air-conditioning units, the auditorium, which is situated in the third floor of the building, is the pride of Meenakshi College.
The wooden stage has a startlingly realistic statue of our founder, Prof. K. R. Sundararajan.
The auditorium is used for all major college functions including College Day, Founder's Remembrance Day, Founder's birthday celebrations, Cultural events, College's Founding Day celebrations, Union Valedictory Function and the College Convocation. It is also utilized for occasions such as students' assembly, wherein the entire college needs to assemble in one place.
This is an auditorium located in the ground floor of the college building and has a seating capacity of about 500. The large wooden stage, the tastefully done decor and the air-conditioning provide an enchanting ambience. Many a college function and seminar is held here. The audio facilities and seating capacity make it an ideal choice for special functions in college as well as staff and student meetings.
The KRS Auditorium gets busy during the December Music season every year, for it forms the venue of the Annual Music Festival conducted under the auspices of the Meenakshi Sundararajan Fine Arts Academy.
Homi Bhabha Seminar Hall
Situated in the First Floor of the college building, the Homi Bhabha Seminar Hall is usually the venue of choice for technical seminars conducted by the various departments in the college.
This seminar hall can accommodate about 300 people and has a raised stage with a convenient head table, marble flooring, and prettily done lighting. The seminar hall is fully air-conditioned and boasts of a ceiling-mounted LCD projector and a retractable on-stage screen for the same.
Albert Einstein Seminar Hall
This seminar hall is a compact place for small meetings and demonstrations. Located in the ground floor of the building, this seminar hall has been prettily designed to accommodate about a 100 people.
The seminar hall is air-conditioned and is complete with a ceiling-mounted LCD projector and a conveniently located screen that is flush with the wall on the stage. Being in this seminar hall feels like being in a semi-circular amphi-theatre, for the stage is located lower than the audience.
A favourite haunt of students practicing for cultural events, the Open-air Theatre with the entire central quadrangle providing space for the audience, has always been the venue for Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations in the college. During the college cultural fests, the quadrangle finds itself roofed with a pandal for the conduct of the cultural contests.
Lectures on the Bhagavad Gita, etc. are also regularly held here by external agencies like the Chinmaya Mission, after college hours.
The Central Computing Facility of the college is named Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Computer Center and is spread across a beautifully furnished 7500 sq. ft. area on the second floor of the College building. The Computer Center houses state-of-the-art computing facilities and is a pride of the college.
Apart from this Computer Center, there are two other Computer Laboratories, connected to the Computer Center through optical fibre cable.
The Department of English has an air-conditioned, Hi-Tech Language Lab, that can accommodate more than 100 students. It has a console, a monitor and a television for viewing. All the undergraduate students who take up foundation English have an access to the LanguageLab. The undergraduate students, in their third and fifth semester have a skill based paper, "English for communication skills". Students are taken to the lab and the CD's are played to enhance their listening and speaking skills. The practical exams for the respective semesters are conducted based on these CDs.
The lab has a wide range of audio CD's like - "Follow Me", "Mind your Language" etc for beginners. The students have a firsthand experience of real life communication. CD's like "Look Ahead", suits the needs of intermediate level students. B.B.C. audio is provided for the students of Advanced Level, (B.A. English Literature).
There are business English CD's that cater to the needs of the commerce students. The lab is also used to screen movie CD's from the British Council based on the syllabus. For example, Shakespearean Plays.
The Language Lab is of immense use to the students of III B.A. English Literature for they use it for their "Language and Linguistics" paper. They learn the science of phonetics with the help of 47 head phones.
The Language Lab is put to maximum use and provides a space for honing the Language skills of our students.
The College believes in empowering women through holistic education by its systematic and focused course of action. The college has laid platform for numerous talents of our students. The students actively participate in the Inter department sports competitions every year in Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Kabaddi, Throwball, Cricket, Shuttle Badminton, Ball Badminton, Carom and Chess.
The college has always encouraged sports and has produced many a national, state-level, district-level or University-level champion. The Director of Physical Education, Mrs. S. Shankari, B.Com., M.P.Ed., SLST, takes avid interest in the sports curriculum of the students. Students have responded increasingly every year and have risen to top spots upto the national level.
There is a College Canteen and also a smaller cafeteria called Byte Inn for the convenience of the large number of students on campus. Both the cafeteria offer a variety of delicious fare to students, staff and visitors.
Stationery and Xerox Facility
There is a Xerox and printing & binding facility on campus for the student and staff needs. The facility also doubles up as a stationery store for students and staff.
The college has 4 elevators, three in the southern wing and one in the western wing. These elevators service the five floors of the building starting from the ground floor.
