IIT Roorkee scholarship is offered to provide financial assistance to deserving IITR students enrolled in various UG & PG courses. James Thomason Scholarship and Merit Cum Mean Scholarships are some of the prominent scholarships offered by IIT Roorkee. Besides IIT Roorkee scholarship, the institute also offers education loans to assist students with a weak financial background. There is also a provision of fellowships for IITR's research scholars.

IIT Roorkee considers factors like academic performance, annual family income, excellence in co-curricular activities, etc., to grant scholarships to its students. The list of various IIT Roorkee scholarships is mentioned below.

Merit Cum Means Scholarship

A UG student receives a minimum of Rs 1,000 per month for ten months per academic year and a refund of the remaining tuition money under the merit cum means (MCM) scholarship. An M.Sc. student receives a stipend of at least  Rs 1,000 per month for ten months of the academic year. It is only available for the duration of the programme. It is only offered up to the fourth year of dual degree programmes. Furthermore, it is worth up to 25% of the class's true strength.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the MCM Scholarship IIT Roorkee, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant falls into one of the following categories: General, General (EWS) or OBC.
  • An applicant has enrolled in a B.Tech, B.Arch, Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), Integrated Master of Technology (IMT), Integrated Master of Science (IMS), or BS-MS programme through JEE (Advanced) or M.Sc. program through JAM.
  • Parents' annual income during the preceding financial year was not greater than Rs. 5,00,000.
  • The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) and the yearly grade point average (YGPA) are at least 7.00. (not applicable for fresh students).
  • All registered courses have been cleared (not applicable for fresh students).

James Thomason Scholarship

A UG student at IIT Roorkee will receive Rs 25000 per month under the James Thomason (JT) scholarship (for 10 months per year). The JT scholarship is awarded for the duration of the programme if the student maintains a cumulative grade point average of 8.0 or higher at the end of each academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the IIT Roorkee James Thomson scholarship, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • An applicant is a JEE-admitted student pursuing a B.Tech., B.Arch., Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), Integrated Master of Technology (IMT), Integrated Master of Science (IMS), or BS-MS program (Advanced)
  • In the most recent JEE (Advanced), the applicant received an All India Rank (AIR) of up to 250.

Inspire She Scheme

IIT Roorkee scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) is available to pursue undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) studies under the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) program, sponsored and managed by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), based on Class 12th standard examination results (top 1%) of respective Boards or within eligible rank in a few competitive examinations such as JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced), NEET (Main), NEET (Advanced), etc.

Eligibility Criteria

To renew Inspire She, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • An applicant is a student in the Department of Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics' Integrated M.Sc. programs (II to V year).
  • The applicant received an Inspire Scholarship (She) in the previous year.

Q: How to get a fee waiver at IIT Roorkee?

A:

During the eligible candidate's admission for the first semester, he/she will have to pay the full fee. Once the admission process is completed, the candidate shall be able to access the fee waiver form via the official website of IITR. The candidate must fill out the form and submit it. If the institute grants them a fee waiver based on their application, they will receive a fee refund.

Q: Is there any IIT Roorkee scholarship for SC/ST/PwD students?

A:

Yes, SC/ST/PwD students are eligible for a 100% fee waiver on the tuition fees regardless of their family income. Students who are eligible and submit the required documents can avail of this fee waiver during the time of admission.

Q: Is the IIT Roorkee scholarship offered based on JEE Rank?

Yes, IIT Roorkee offers various scholarships to undergraduate students based on a high JEE Advanced rank and past academic performance.

Q: What is the free messing scheme offered by IIT Roorkee?

A:

SC/ST category candidates studying at IIT Roorkee whose family's annual income is below INR 5 LPA are eligible for the free messing scheme. Under this scheme, students are given free messing (for the basic menu only) and a monthly pocket allowance of INR 250. Moreover, they also get an exemption from paying the hostel room rent. However, if students do not want to avail of the free messing scheme, they can instead opt for a monthly pocket allowance of INR 1,000.
