IIT Roorkee Campus: Infrastructure, Hostel & Other Facilities

IIT Roorkee campus covers an expansive area of 358.5 acres. With home to 10,300+ students, the IITR campus provides state-of-the-art facilities like hostels, a library, clubs, sports facilities, banks, cafeterias, guest houses, etc. Along with a co-ed hostel, there are separate hostels available for boys, girls, and married couples. Moreover, the IIT Roorkee library has a vast collection of over 3.20 lakh documents and 70000+ e-resources. 

Besides the IIT Roorkee main building, the institute has two other campuses located in Saharanpur and Greater Noida. IIT Roorkee Saharanpur campus size is 25 acres and the one in Greater Noida is built on an area of 10 acres. IIT Roorkee Hostels

• The IIT Roorkee campus has 10 boys' hostels, 3 girls' hostels, 1 co-ed hostel, and 6 hostels for married couples.  
• Each hostel or 'Bhawan' has a state-of-the-art cybercafe, canteen, and wifi connectivity. All IIT Roorkee hostels are peaceful and clean.
• Boys enrolled in B.Tech and B.Arch courses are allotted rooms in Rajendra Bhawan during their first year. While girls pursuing the same course are given rooms in Kasturba Bhawan.

IIT Roorkee Library

• IIT Roorkee library, known as the Mahatma Gandhi Central Library, has a collection of more than 3.20 lakh document holdings including books, dissertations, archival materials, theses, etc.
• Additionally, there are over 70,000 e-resources including e-Journals, e-Books, e-Databases, e-Newspapers, and more.

IIT Roorkee Eating Hubs

• There are various eating hubs located throughout the IIT Roorkee campus. These promote important student relationships and are frequently seen bursting with activity.
• The Georgia cafe's proximity to the new lecture hall complex, the students club, and several dormitories assure a wonderful hub of activity.
• Cafe Coffee Day, an Amul parlour, and the Sattviko Idea Cafe are all located within the multi-activity centre. In addition to offering meals, the concept cafe serves as a student discussion centre, with a conference room and a relaxation area.
• Several similar eateries on campus, including the alphar cafe and numerous hostel cafes, are available.
• Fresh fruit kiosks and IIT Roorkee canteens with wide seating areas are available in each hostel for students to eat and mingle with their peers.
• There are night cafes such as the Shri Balaji Cautley Bhawan Cafe for late-night hunger pangs, which is open from 2 am to 2 pm.

IIT Roorkee Clubs

• UG Club, PG Club (Jawahar Club), and Alaknanda Club are some of the clubs at IIT Roorkee that help students to relax and recharge.
• The indoor sports facilities include seven billiards & snooker tables, carrom boards, chess boards, table tennis, and a foosball table.
• Additional sections are dedicated to stargazing, philately and numismatics, and robotics in the hobbies club.
• Reading areas with various newspapers and light publications are also available in the clubs. Each club has a TV room with seating for around a hundred people.

IIT Roorkee Banks

• The Punjab National Bank and the State Bank of India have branches on the IIT Roorkee campus. The banks offer centralised banking services, internet banking, and ATM services.
• Every Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee student must open an account with one of the two banks upon admission. Apart from this, numerous banks have branches and ATMs in the town or off-campus.

IIT Roorkee Post Office

• The IIT Roorkee campus features a post office, which is conveniently located near the UG club. The post office is well-equipped and serves the needs of students, professors, and visitors to campus.
• The post office is open from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays and from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.

IIT Roorkee Institute Hospital

• The campus of IIT Roorkee has a 50-bed hospital that provides outpatient, emergency, inpatient care, laboratory, x-ray, and ECG services to faculty, staff, and students.
• The institute hospital also provides ambulance services for referring patients to higher centres that are in excellent working order.

IIT Roorkee Security

• The IITR campus is well-protected and enclosed by boundary walls. Security guards are stationed at each entrance gate, inspecting all cars entering the site.
• In addition, a number of security booths maintain a close eye on the campus. Security complaints should be filed with the security office.

IIT Roorkee Guest Houses

• Guests and delegates who visit the college can stay in one of three guest houses on the campus of IIT Roorkee.
• The facilities provided in the guest houses include an in-house dining facility, AC rooms, free wifi connectivity, 24 X 7 medical facility, a lush green campus, 24 X 7 security service, and much more.
