With disappointing placement records and incompetent faculty members burdened with administrative work, the students of Hindustan University have expressed their regret for wasting their precious time at the university.

GetMyUni's Verdict on Hindustan University

Hindustan University has a large campus with beautiful infrastructure, which has been luring students to join. Its management is notorious for its money-looting mindset and spending the money only to improve the exterior look of the university and not on the quality of education offered or the academic infrastructure. The poorly maintained educational infrastructure and inexperienced faculty members significantly affect the overall intellectual development of the students.

The university has several rules and regulations regarding the academic structure, which the students must carefully follow. If not, a considerable amount of money will be yielded from them in the name of fines. Although the university offers various courses in various fields, it does not have experienced professors nor provides many career opportunities.

Students have unanimously said that they gained nothing from the university except maybe a college degree with some value and several fines for matters they were unaware existed before they were asked to pay the fine. The university has managed to promote itself as one of the best universities in the city, but the reality is different.

Table of Contents

Plethora of Courses in Multiple Disciplines

The university offers a diverse range of courses across different disciplines at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. The university is mainly famous for its variety of specialisations available in the Engineering stream. The university offers multiple specialisations in the abovementioned streams that entices the students.

Apart from the Engineering programs, the university's MBA programs are considered among the best programs in the state. According to the students and academic experts, the top courses available at the university are as follows.

  • B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering
  • B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering
  • B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • B.Tech in Automobile Engineering
  • B.Tech in Civil Engineering
  • B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • B.Tech in Information Technology
  • Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Hindustan University Students

Apart from the undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the university also offers PhD programs with various specialisations in different fields. Students who intend to pursue a career in academia or research can find the domain they want at the university. However, the facilities and resources available may be limited. Therefore, it is recommended that the students connect with the previous years’ researchers to learn more about the prospects in the fields of their interest.

Strict Attendance Policy

The university has a strict attendance policy for its students, who are expected to maintain a minimum attendance of 75% for each subject. Students who fall below the minimum attendance percentage are not allowed to appear for the end-semester exam unless they pay the additional fees, with exceptions for medical reasons and participation in university-sponsored events.

Exorbitant Fee Structure

The university's course fees are expensive and not affordable to all students from different backgrounds. The fee varies depending on the program and course level. Nonetheless, compared to other private universities, the fees at Hindustan University are generally considered more affordable.

The annual course fees for professional programs, such as Engineering, Architecture and Management courses, range from INR 3.5 lakhs to INR 5 lakhs. While for the other courses in disciplines like Arts and Science, Law, Fashion Design, etc., the tuition fees per annum fall between INR 1.5 lakhs and INR 4 lakhs.

On the other hand, the university offers myriad scholarships for students based on their merit and economic backgrounds. Students with marks above 90% in the qualifying exam are offered good scholarships covering almost the entire tuition fee.

Underwhelming Faculties

Most of the students who graduated from the university have had complaints regarding the quality of the professors at the university. Even though they are educated enough, most professors are not knowledgeable or experienced enough to provide the necessary education to the students. They lack practical knowledge and are mainly not interested in taking classes. It is said that these professors only intend to finish the syllabus and take courses for namesake.

According to past graduates, the professors at the university are the ones who could not manage to get a job in other institutions or in the industry. Even the M.Tech students were hired to take classes for the B.Tech students and were paid meagre amounts. The professors are loaded with administrative work, which consumes most of their time rather than helping the students.

Hindustan University Faculties

Although the majority of the teachers at the university do the bare minimum by simply reading the chapters and being done with it, there are a few professors in specific departments who are dedicated to imparting quality knowledge to the students that is beneficial to them not only for the exams but for their future as well. But, such teachers leave the university at the first chance they get due to the ill-treatment and the low pay.

Additionally, the qualified and experienced professors mostly take classes for the students towards the later semesters of the course. Still, the lack of proper basic knowledge of the subject leaves students clueless, and they are made to do assignments on baseless topics.

Poorly Maintained Infrastructure

Based on the students’ responses, the university infrastructure is generally good, with well-equipped classrooms, labs and a library. However, the maintenance of the older campus buildings is improper, and the Wi-Fi connectivity is unreliable. The university has an eco-friendly campus and is kept clean.

The classrooms at the university are spacious and equipped with modern technology such as projectors, whiteboards and computers that provide a conducive learning environment. However, the classrooms in the older buildings are poorly conditioned. The laboratories for each department also have the required facilities to enable practical learning experiences. However, specific departments lack modern facilities for the updated curriculums.

Hindustan University Classroom

The best part about the university infrastructure is the library, which is large with an extensive collection of books and other resources that is spread across multiple floors. Students from all departments can find the required books and reference materials to support their studies and research. The students have ample seating areas as well. However, during peak hours, it can get difficult to navigate through the library due to overcrowding.

The canteen at the university is considered to be average in terms of food quality and variety. The canteen offers reasonable prices and options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. It is generally clean and hygienic. Yet, the menu at the canteen can be repetitive with limited options for those seeking different types of food. The quality of the food served is said to be inconsistent. Like the library, the canteen can also be crowded during peak hours, causing inconvenience for students.

Hindustan University Canteen

Another feature of the university infrastructure that students appreciate is the sports complex. It has modern facilities, including a swimming pool, basketball, badminton, and gym. The sports facilities are well-kept, with assisted training available for various sports. However, the students have limited access to the facilities and can only be utilised at set times. Also, some equipment, especially at the gym, is poorly maintained, and there is a scarcity of variety in sports activities and competitions.

Comparatively Convenient Hostels

The hostel facilities at the university are convenient as it is located within the campus, making it easy for the students to reach the classes, access the library and participate in extracurricular activities. There are multiple options for occupancy at the hostels, such as single, double and triple rooms catering to different preferences and budgets. The hostels provide basic amenities like beds, desks, wardrobes and attached bathrooms.

Despite the convenience of staying in hostels, the shared living environment can raise privacy concerns for some students. As the hostels are occupied by a large population from different disciplines, it can get noisy, affecting the students' sleep and study time.

Hindustan University Indoor Facilities

Some students have reported the cleanliness of common areas and bathrooms is compromised, and the overall maintenance of the amenities, such as broken furniture, faulty lights and leaking pipes, have become issues in the past.

The safety and security of the students are guaranteed as there are round-the-clock security guards and wardens for each hostel. However, the hostels have strict rules and restrictions regarding curfew timings and limited visitor access, affecting students’ freedom.

Nonetheless, the hostel fees are considered affordable compared to other private universities in the country. The hostel fees vary depending on the room type, the course level and the duration of stay. The annual fees for single rooms fall between INR 90,00,000 and INR 1,30,000. For double rooms, it is between INR 65,000 and INR 95,000; triple occupancy ranges from INR 45,000 to INR 70,000.

Besides the on-campus housing facilities, students have the option to stay at PGs and private hostels outside the campus, which are available for both male and female students. There are well-furnished, good PGs around the campus with monthly rents starting from INR 5000.

Dynamic and Captivating Campus Life

Even though the academic atmosphere at the university is below par, the campus life at Hindustan University is supposed to be vibrant and engaging, with a wide range of extracurricular activities, fests, events and sports. The university also has a welcoming and inclusive environment on campus.

Students can join several exciting clubs and societies to pursue their hobbies and talents. These clubs are well-organised extracurricular activities, providing many opportunities for the students to get involved. These activities are also an excellent way for the students to meet new, like-minded peers and learn new skills.

Hindustan University Cultural Event

The university has several cultural and tech fests and events organised annually, which help the students break up the monotony of studying. Students can showcase their talents and skills and act as a way to show off their school spirit. Regarding sports events, the university conducts tournaments and competitions where interested students can participate. The sports teams are very competitive and always welcome new members. The sports complex is an excellent place for students to relax and hang out with friends.

In short, regardless of the poor academics, students have a wholesome college experience and have ample opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities to pursue their interests and hobbies.

Diversity on Campus

The university has a highly diverse campus concerning gender ratio and cultures. Several students from different parts of the country, especially from the southern region, are part of the student body. Students have exposure to other cultures as various festivals are celebrated on campus.

Although the gender ratio is disproportional per discipline, the overall population has an equal number of male and female students. The university also accepts students from different communities and financial backgrounds. Equal opportunities are provided to all students, irrespective of their backgrounds.

Hindustan University Sports

Dress Code

Though there is no defined uniform, students are expected to abide by a strict dress code and wear decent clothes, as there have been instances where the students were asked to pay a fine for wearing certain clothing items. There are specific guidelines that the students should follow, such as wearing T-shirts with collars, formal trousers or jeans, and shoes are compulsory on campus. Girls can wear casual clothes including jeans and tops, sarees and salwars. Formal attire is mandatory for all students for official functions and events.

Variation in Placement Rates Across Disciplines

Placements at the university vary across different departments, with some departments consistently achieving higher placement rates than others. The distribution of placement packages is uneven, with only a tiny percentage of students receiving high packages while the majority receive average boxes. According to the previous year’s placement records, around 70% of students received placement offers from different companies, most of it was for Engineering graduates.

The prominent courses that get most of the offers from reputed companies and organisations are Engineering programs, leaving limited placement opportunities for non-engineering programs. Although the university has a strong network of recruiters, including major IT companies, multinational corporations and consulting firms, the placements may be concentrated in some geographical regions. Many posts are in IT, limiting options for students who prefer to work in other areas.

Hindustan University Innovations

Based on the previous years’ placement records, the highest salary package offered to the students was INR 12.75 LPA, and the average placement package was INR 4.5 LPA. Most offers were for Computer Science and Engineering graduates, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology and Civil Engineering programs.

Final Impression of Hindustan University

It can be concluded that pursuing education at Hindustan University can be tricky as there are several positive and negative aspects to the university. While the academic quality of faculty members and the poor infrastructure maintenance can affect the learning environment, the university can be considered a good option for those students who only intend to obtain a degree and expect to have a wholesome college experience. The university's diverse and vibrant campus life provides students with opportunities to get exposure to various cultures and backgrounds. The pros and cons of studying at Hindustan University are as follows.

Pros Cons
A variety of courses across various disciplines Exorbitant fees for students from financially different backgrounds
Diverse campus culture with several extracurricular activities Inconsistent quality of faculty members across departments
Adequate facilities and extensive infrastructure Limited placement opportunities for Qnon-engineering students
High placement opportunities for Engineering programs Administrative challenges regarding latency in responses to complaints.
