The Gandhigram Rural Institute Overview

Gandhigram Rural Institute, [GRI] Dindigul, was established in 1947. The college was founded by two dedicated disciples and contemporaries of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. G.Ramachandra and Dr. T.S. Soundaram Ramachandra. The college focuses on the holistic development of learners, with an emphasis on skill development through value-based education, rooted in indigenous culture and traditions.

This college also gives education in B.Tech in Civil Engineering and M.Tech in renewable energy. The GRI has been unstintingly contributing to higher education and has successfully pioneered rural higher education since 1956. The Gandhigram Institute is quite active on both on-campus and in rural areas. The institution has taken efforts to design its academic programs in tune with a demand of in the society and industry by providing learner-centric, transparent teaching, and evaluation models. GRI strives for achieving a global standard of excellence in all dimensions of education.

The college is committed to developing areas in its vicinity. The Institute is controlled by the Ministry of Human Resource Development [MHRD], Government of India, and it is funded by the University Grants Commission [UGC]. It provides various courses that help in the progress of the rural parts nearby.

Gandhigram Rural Institute offers a wide range of facilities for the students. Some of the facilities are mentioned below:

Library:

  • The Gandhigram library was established in 1956 and it was moved into the present building in 1987, stocking over 1.6 lakh books
  • The library has been computerized for circulation. It uses KOHA software integrated with RFID technology
  • The total area of the library building is about 14,338 sq. ft.

Computer Centre:

  • The computer center was established in the year 1989
  • The center is the central hub for ICT related services for the institution

Internet Browsing center:

  • The browsing center has 30 computer systems
  • The computer systems have AMD Sempron, 512 MB RAM, 80GB HDD configuration

Centre of E-Content Development:

  • One server contains 25 multimedia systems in the center of E-Content Development
  • This center provides training to develop E-Content Material

Physical Education:

  • The Department of Physical Education was established in 1976
  • This department provides all indoor and outdoor sports facilities 

Centre of Nano Science and Nano Technology:

  • This center is for nucleate multidisciplinary activities
  • It helps to expand research activities on the campus
  • The NMR facility has Bruker Avance 400 MHz FT-NMR spectrometer for internal as well as external use

Museum of Constructive Programs:

  • This Museum gives a scientific temper for the constructive programs within the Gandhi framework
  • It plays an important role in attracting visitors from different places of the country and it targets peace, sustainability, and harmony through constructive programs

Guest House:

  • Parents of students who are coming from a long distance can stay here
  • The officials/ guests who are invited for any programs in the institution can also stay in the Guest House

Canteen:

  • The canteen of GRI is fully furnished and has flexible seating arrangements

Bank:

  • The Gandhigram institution provides banking facilities to make bank transactions easier for both students and the teachers

Day Care Centre:

  • The candidates must have completed BA

M.Com

  • The student must be a graduate in B.Com/ BBA/ B.Com/ BA/ B.Sc.

M.Sc

  • He/ She must have a bachelor's degree in their respective fields.

M.Phil

  • The person must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized college or a university.

PG Diploma

  • The candidate must have a respective undergraduate degree.

B.Com

  • The person should have passed class 12 or any other equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

BBA

  • The person should have passed class 12 or any other equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

B.Sc

  • He/ She should have passed class 12 with their respective subjects as compulsory.

B.Tech

  • The candidate should be a class 12 pass from a recognized board or university with a minimum of 45% of marks or 40% in the case of quota holders (SC/ST).

M.Tech

  • Student should passed B.E./ B.Tech/ AMIE/ Diploma/ Post Diploma with minimum of 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA (50% marks or 5 CGPA for quota holders.

MCA 

  • He/ She must be UG pass with Mathematics as a compulsory subject in 10+2 examination and a minimum of 50% marks or 45% in the case of quota holders.

MBA

  • The candidate must have a bachelor's degree with 50% minimum marks.
B.Ed
  • The student must have passed UG/ PG degree with a minimum of 55% or 50% marks if quota holder.

M.Ed

  • He/ She must have a UG/ PG degree along with a B.Ed degree with a minimum of 50% marks in B.Ed

B.Voc

  • The candidate must be class 12 passed from a recognized board or university.

D.Voc

  • The candidate must be class 12 passed from a recognized board or university.

Diploma

  • The candidate must be class 12 passed from a recognized board or university.

Ph.D.

  • The candidate should be Indian
  • The applicant should be 22-30 years old.

Sports day, annual day, and farewell. Freshers' day is arranged. Life in college very interesting.

Hostels for girls and boys are separate and fees per year is 25K. food is very hygienic. Infrastructure and labs, library is well arranged.
