Central Institute of Tool Design, located in Hyderabad, Telangana is a Public Institute. This deemed institute was established in 1968 and is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH). Central Institute of Tool Design (CITD) established in 1968 by the Govt. of India with the assistance of UNDP and ILO, is a pioneering Institution in the field of Tool Engineering in the Country. The Institute was initially established as a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Project and was executed by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The precision machinery and equipment were donated by UNDP and the faculty were trained abroad in the area of Tool Engineering. The UNDP Experts stayed at CITD for about 5 years and trained officers, faculty & staff of CITD in the manufacture and design of tooling. The main objectives of the institute are to train the technical personnel in the Design & Manufacturing of Tools, Dies & Moulds. Design & Manufacture of dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges, etc. Provision of advisory services to Small Scale Units including assistance in design and developing tools for various processes. Recommending measures to standardize components for dies, jigs and other tools.
Admission will be granted based on the score obtained in CUCET. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination could also apply to any of these programs, provided they submit the necessary documents within the stipulated time. CITD Hyderabad offers M.E and M.Tech programs at the PG level. CITD also offers Diploma courses at the UG and PG level. For M.E and M.Tech programs, students must hold a B.E/ B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Production Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Mechatronics or equivalent with an aggregate of at least 55% marks from a recognized university.

Candidates belonging to SC/ ST Category will be given a relaxation of 5% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination. There is no age limit to apply to ME and M.Tech programs. However, candidates below 45 years of age are preferred. GATE rank holders also need to qualify themselves in the Entrance Test. Admission into the M.Tech courses at CITD is entrance based. Candidates must appear in CUCET conducted by the college every year. The scorecards will need to be submitted to the University once the results are declared by the respective board. CITD, Hyderabad offers a Diploma program in five disciplines at the PG level and offers a Diploma course in four disciplines at the UG level. For the PGD program, candidates must hold a B.E/ B.Tech relevant discipline from a recognized board. Students who wish to pursue a Diploma program at the UG level must have passed class 10 or equivalent with an aggregate of at least 50% marks from a recognized board. For a Diploma course, candidates must have passed class 10 or equivalent with an aggregate of at least 50% marks from a recognized board.
