Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process

I am a student of second year B. Sc (H) in the comp. Sc. In Asutosh college. The atmosphere of my college is student-friendly. I haven't been faced any kind of ragging by senior students instead I had them whenever I needed them. The faculties are so helpful. They interact with their students so easily so that the bonding between students and teachers becomes friendly. Coming to the entrance exam. I haven't given any entrance to get into my college. All I had was a result of my higher secondary examination and on the basis of that result, I was enlisted in the first merit list published by the college. The college publishes more than one merit list after a certain no. of days. I was enlisted in the first merit list. The cutoffs are really high because Ashutosh college is ranked one college under Calcutta University. Therefore there's tough competition for every stream. You have to score at least 80% to get your name on that merit list at first attempt. There is plenty of space on the college premises and a lot of buildings where classes are attempted. The laboratories are air-conditioned so that you don't have to be so wet doing some kind of research works. The libraries are pretty big that it can provide any kind of book you need. There are three libraries in total, one in the main building and one in another building known as ACTC building. So yes, I can assure you that you won't regret making the decision to take your three-year bachelor course at Asutosh College.

It has been an amazing experience to be a part of a historic institute. The Old Walls now have new systems and they are upgrading as time flies. You have an array of courses. Mass. Comm & Journalism, in particular, is interesting as they have one of the best faculty presents. We have been given each necessary tools required not only to complete the course but also which would, later on, help us to get through with professional life.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process

Asutosh College is one of the renowned colleges in Kolkata, West Bengal. It's famous because of its student's active political actions. Taking admission is a bit tuff in the college especially in the department I studied that is Sociology as it has high cut off range. The year when I got admission in Asutosh College, the range of cut off was 85%. Also, it is difficult as there is a long procedure to complete the admission process. It took me 2days to complete as there was a huge line for admission and the student need to let go from one building to another.

Q.

HI Riya!!

  • A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent examination is eligible to seek admission to the 1st year of the 3-year B.A./B.Sc. (Hons./General/Major), B.B.A. (Hons.) and UGC approved B.Voc./Diploma/Advanced Diploma Course of Studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100. However, no candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular Course of Study after passing the previous qualifying examination.

Explanation : The year of admission shall not be taken into account while calculating 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying Examination.

For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education /Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject "Environmental Science" is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, may be taken into account for the purpose determining the aggregate marks.
    • A Candidate taking up Honours/Major/General/Vocation/Diploma/Advanced Diploma Course in a subject must have obtained (C.U. Rules):
      • Hons : A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. For BBA 55% marks in the aggregate from any discipline.
      • Major/Vocation : For these Courses a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate at the previous qualifying Exam.
      • General/Diploma/Advanced Diploma : For these Courses, a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate at the previous qualifying Exam.
    • However, Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe or OBC-A or OBC-B Community taking up Honours/Major/Vocation Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.
  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up the subject (s) under heading A if he/she had passed the subject(s) under heading B at the previous qualifying examination.
