Placements and Internships

2.5

  • SCMM is a premier institute for PhD, therefore the faculty have all their labs and as a master student, you can apply for a summer internship in one of the labs as well, but it will be subjected to availability.
  • JNU doesn't have a separate internship and placement cell and research institutes like ours anyway do not get placement offers anyway.
  • There is no stipend for the Masters, although, in the coming years, there might be.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru University, [JNU] New Delhi has been around for 10 years and has PhD awardees working in several places like ILBS, New Delhi and as faculty at several central universities.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • I took admission in an Integrated MSc and PhD course in Molecular Medicine from Special Center for Molecular Medicine (SCMM), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
  • To be eligible for the course, you need to have a 3 or 4 years BSc Degree in any Science, B.Tech or MBBS.
  • There is no age limit for applying to this course.
  • The admissions are taken on the basis of a written entrance test conducted by SCMM which mostly consists of General Aptitude questions followed by questions from Life Sciences.
  • The cut off is usually above 65% and these candidates are then called for an interview session.
  • A collective score of the written test + interview scores gets you a seat for the course.
  • The usual intake is 5 - 7 students per year.

Fees and Scholarships

4.5

  • The course fee for the entire year is Rs. 280 during MSc and Rs. 450 during PhD.
  • JNU provides scholarships to students from unprivileged backgrounds and one student with excellent academic progress is eligible for an additional scholarship. During the course of PhD, all students can avail Rs. 8,000 as a non-net scholarship provided by JNU.
  • As Jawaharlal Nehru University, [JNU] New Delhi is a Central University, there is usually no need for loans as the overall expenditure is very less.
