Placements and Internships

4.5

  • L D College of Engineering is well known in Gujarat mainly due to the placements students get. It probably has got the best placement figures in the entire history among all colleges of Gujarat.
  • Many large companies across India and MNCs to visit the college every year to recruit a number of students for their companies. These firms include - Reliance, L&T, Tata Motors, Adani Power, GSFC, IBM, Accenture, Bombardier, TCS, and much more.
  • Recently, from the final year batch-2016 of the college, from about 1200 participants, more than 500 students got placed in various companies. Accenture, the IT firm, hires the most number of students from the college almost every year. From batch-2016, they selected 197 students. Reliance selected about 29 students and L&T 22 students.
  • The branch from which the highest number of students were selected was Computer Engineering (CE) about 82 students, followed by Mechanical Engineering - 69 students. From Instrumentation & Control (IC), 37 students were selected in various companies.
  • Talking about the salary figures, the highest salary to be paid was by HDFC, which was 10 LPA (lacs per annum) for 2 students and 12 LPA for 1 student. Reliance and L&T give about 5-7 lap and IT companies like Accenture give around 3-3.5 LPA salary package. They also make students sign contract or bond of about a year or two when they join the company after graduation.

The Training and Placement cell (TPO) is the handling of all the placement activities for the college and they do their task very fine. Few coordinators from various branches are selected to distribute the work between different departments. The coordinators are given the responsibility to convey the messages to the students regarding upcoming companies via e-mail.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • For getting admission to the L D College of Engineering, there was no entrance exam, but the Combined score of Std. 12th (HSC) and JEE Main examination were considered to prepare the merit list for the year - 2013. And this entire procedure was managed by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC).
  • From that very educational year, online process of admission to various colleges had started. In this process, a state-wide merit list is prepared. According to the government provided online facilities, we students have to choose between colleges and the discipline we wanted to appear and make a priority list, according to which the admission process is held in 2 to 3 rounds.
Talking about my experience, my first priority was to do Instrumentation and Control (IC) Engineering in LDCE and also secured a rank around 2500 throughout the state. So it was pretty easy for me to get admission into the branch (IC) and the college (LDCE) I wanted. If one wants to get admission in the Instrumentation field in LDCE, a rank of around 30000-40000 was enough according to my knowledge at that time (in 2013). Keep in mind this rank is determined according to both - the HSC score and the JEE score too.

Academics and Faculty

3

  • The class timings for all years' students are generally from 10:30 am to 5:15 pm constituting of about 6 hours of learning; out of which, 2 hours are assigned for lab sessions and remaining 4 hrs for lectures. On some days, some students may be required to attend classes at 8 am to 10 am in few semesters. But the class timings and the breaks between them are pretty comfortable for anyone to cope with.
  • Most of the faculties during the first year are very friendly and interactive. For the remaining years, students have to move to their respective departments and thereafter only the faculties of the respective departments teach students of the same department.

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

  • In LDCE, the net college course fee is about 3000 rupees per year. That is a lot less than the self-financed institutions in Gujarat which charge about 50-60k rupees per annum as college fees, and this is because LDCE is a government college.
  • During the first 2 or 3 semesters, there are various scholarship forms available to the students, which are granted to SC/ST/OBC students. There were no scholarships for students from General category according to my knowledge.
  • There are no loans needed since the expense for college fees are quite low and easily affordable in my opinion.
  • However, a Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme is available for students, with which, if the student fulfills the criteria (like net family income below some figure 3 LPA), the fees will be cut in half.
