Placements and Internships

Since ISB is a 12 month program, there isn't enough time for a full time internship. To compensate for this and provide students the opportunity to work on real life business assignments ISB has a program called ELP - Experiental Learning Program (ELP). In this program a team of 4-5 students do consulting work on projects floated by companies from the. For example I had worked on a project for Barclays Capital about identifying inbound M&A opportunities in the cement sector. ISB is essentially a consulting business school. Almost all marquee and tier 2, tier 3 consulting firms come to the campus. Some international majors - Novartis, Siemens etc. also offer good general management roles. However due to the absence of a full time internship program there is a genuine dearth of finance offers - investment banking, PE etc. on the campus. ISB career services team is extremely helpful and resourceful. In case the on campus offers dont make the cut for you, the team helps you in exploring opportunities outside the campus/ ISB is a young school. Although not at par with the IIMs, ISB Alumni network is ever increasing. Alums are well connected through alum groups, events etc.

Academics and Faculty

Academic calendar is action packed. There are 8 semesters/terms in the year of 6 weeks each. Break between each term is not more than a week, sometimes less than that. Every term has 4 subjects. Classes are scheduled every week from Mon to Thursday. First 4 terms called Core terms are common for all. These include the foundation courses on accounting, marketing, strategy, finance, stats and operations Next 4 terms are elective terms where one chooses subjects/courses depending on the intended major. For the elective term wide choice of courses are available across all streams. However, during my time choice of subjects in sales and digital streams were limited. Overall I found the entire pedagogy, course material, orientation of courses to be very theoretical. There was a dearth of case studies from Indian businesses/situations and most cases were predominantly from HBR, Western organizations Core term faculty is mainly from premier B schools in the west and is generally top notch. Quality of faculty during the elective terms was very average for both Indian and foreign professors. Since most of the faculty is not resident, accessibility of professors outside classroom was limited.

Fees and Scholarships

4.5

There are 2 types of scholarships which ISB offers. One scholarship is given at the time of admission which varies from 2-7 lakhs. Its a need based scholarship and is typically offered to those who need genuine financial assistance Second scholarship is the merit scholarship which is offered to the student who finish in the Deans list - Top 50 students byC GPA. It varies from 1-2 lakh depending on the rank. I was a recipient of this scholarship Bank loans are very easy to secure. ISB provides assistance to students in getting the loans.

Academics & Faculty : Academic schedule is very taxing, but nothing that you can't cope with. 4 subjects every term (one and a half month duration), a total of 32 credits spread across 8 terms. A majority of the profs are leaders in their domain, 50-50 distribution of in house and visiting faculty. Profs are typically open to do short research based projects (post a selection process) with students during the course and also in the long run. Teaching methodology is out and out case based. CGPA system of grading. Grades are decided by a mix of assignments ,exams, class participation and presentations.

Testing is frequent with assignments and quizzes in between. This helps keep a good check on progress and learning.
