SSC CHSL exam pattern 2023 contains details of the pattern on the basis of which the Staff Selection Commission will conduct SSC CHSL 2023 exam. As per the new directive by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the SSC CHSL exam will be additionally conducted in 13 new regional languages to aid the candidates.

Knowledge of SSC CHSL 2023 exam patterns will enable the candidates to chalk out a good plan for the exam and eventually help them to prepare the syllabus in a much better way.

SSC CHSL 2023 Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL 2023 exam is held in 3 phases.

  • Tier I: Computer-based(objective-type)
  • Tier II: Descriptive type
  • Tier III: Typing/Skill test 

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

Type: Objective-type Exam

Mode: It is an online exam(computer-based)

Sections: The tier-1 exam consists of 4 sections:

  • Section 1- General Intelligence.
  • Section 2- English Language.
  • Section 3- Quantitative Aptitude.
  • Section 4- General Awareness/General Knowledge.

Tier-1 exam will consist of 100 questions of 2 marks each, thus the maximum number of marks the candidate can get in the paper is 200. 0.5 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer. The candidate has 60 minutes to complete the paper.  

The candidate can answer the questions in two languages i.e Hindi and English. This is applicable to all sections except the 2nd section as it will be only in the English language.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

The paper would be descriptive type in Tier 2 and will be conducted offline and will be Pen and Paper-based. The time given is the same as Tier 1 i.e 60 minutes. The total mark for this exam will be 100. In this exam, the candidate has to at least score 33 marks out of 100, to be eligible for the Tier 3 Exam.

SSC CHSL Tier 3 Exam Pattern

Tier III will be a skill test/typing test exam. The candidate must have a data entry speed of about 8000 key depressions per hour. The duration of the exam will be only 15 minutes and printed matter in English should contain 2000-2200 strokes.

For the post of Data Entry Operator Grade A in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG), the duration of the exam is the same which is 15 minutes. But the data entry speed expected for this post is 15000 key depressions per hour on Computer.

A printed matter in English for about 3700-4000 key depressions would be given to the candidates. The selection criteria will vary for each and every post.

The total marks that are awarded in each paper are:

The merit list will be based on the marks that the candidate got in Tier 1 and Tier 2 exams.

SSC CHSL Question Type

The question paper for SSC CHSL includes:

  • Tier 1 paper will contain Multiple-choice Questions(MCQs). 
  • Tier 2 and Tier 3 will be of descriptive type.

SSC CHSL Marking Scheme

Candidates can find the marking scheme for SSC CHSL 2023 tier 1 and tier 2 below. 

Tier 1

For each correct answer, the candidate will be awarded 2 marks and for each wrong answer, 0.5 marks will be deducted.

Tier 2

Since the paper will be descriptive, there's no fixed marking scheme. The candidates will be evaluated based on the quality of the content in the paper.

SSC CHSL 2023 Exam Day Rules and Guidelines

SSC CHSL 2023 has new exam rules and guidelines as precautionary measures due to COVID-19. They are-

  • All candidates must wear masks in the examination hall. Candidates must remove the masks only during the time when their photograph is taken which will be at the registration desks.
  • Candidates must carry their own hand sanitisers.
  • Candidates shall be allowed to bring their own water bottles as long as it is transparent.
  • The thump impression of the candidates is mandatory for the Attendance and the Commission Copies.
  • Candidates need not do any bio-metric registration.
  • The candidates most importantly must keep sanitizing frequently. All other objects that are frequently used must also be sanitized.

Candidates must follow these rules strictly for the safety of the candidates and others around them.
