What is HSSC?

HSSC (Haryana Staff Selection Commission) was constituted as per Article 309 of the Constitution of India on 28th January 1970 by the Haryana Govt. The commission mainly conducts recruitment exams for Group 'C' post. However, if the Govt. requires, the commission conducts Exams/Interview for Group B and C posts also. 

Examination Level: All the exams are conducted for recruitment in the state only.

Headquarters: Bays: 67-70, Sector-2 Panchkula, 134151, Haryana.

Scope: Every year notifications for numerous posts are out. The posts for which the exam is going to be conducted soon are as follows:

HSSC Exam Eligibility

The eligibility conditions for each post under the HSSC Exam varies. The various associated eligibility conditions are:

Junior Engineer

Educational eligibility: Three-year Diploma in the respective branch(Electrical/Mechanical/Civil) or Four-year Full-time bachelor degree in respective engineering Branch(Electrical/Mechanical/Civil).

The candidate should have done Matric with Hindi or Sanskrit as one subject.

Age: 18-42 Years.

Gram Sachiv

Educational eligibility: The candidate must be a graduate from a university recognised by UGC.

Age: 17-42 Years.

Canal Patwari

Educational eligibility: The candidate must be a graduate from a university recognised by UGC.

Age: 18-42 Years.

Sub Inspector

Educational eligibility: The candidate must be a graduate from a university recognised by UGC.

The candidate should have done Matric with Hindi or Sanskrit as one subject.

 Age: 21-27 Years(As on 1st June 2019)

Age Relaxation

The age relaxation is provided in all the post to certain categories. The age Relaxation conditions are as follows:

  • The candidates belonging to SC/ST category, are given an age relaxation of 5 years.
  • The candidates belonging to PwD category, are given an age relaxation of 10 years. (Except for Haryana Police vacancies)

HSSC Exam Syllabus

The syllabus for written Exam is the same for all vacancies except the vacancies in Haryana police(Both SI and Constable). The HSSC Exam Syllabus is given below:

Syllabus for the post of Junior Engineer, Gram Sachiv and Canal Patwari

There will be one written exam for these posts for 90 marks. 75% of the syllabus will be general and 25% syllabus will check the candidate's knowledge related to the state of Haryana.

The Majority portion containing 75% weightage will include General Awareness, Reasoning, Maths, Science, Computer, English, Hindi and relevant subject as per post. The Remaining portion will contain History, Current Affairs, Literature, Geography, Civics, Environment, Culture etc. of Haryana.

Syllabus for the post of Sub Inspector(SI) and Constable in Haryana Police

A written test will be conducted having 80% weightage in the overall score. The test will have questions from General Awareness, General Science, Current Events, General Reasoning, Mental Aptitude, Numerical ability, Agriculture and animal husbandry and the relevant topics related to the posts.

The syllabus is same for both SI and Constable, however, the difficulty level of the paper for Constable will be of 10+2 level, whereas the difficulty level of the paper for SI will be of graduate level.

HSSC Exam Registration

The candidates can only apply for the given posts through online mode only by visiting the official website of HSSC.

How to Apply for HSSC Exam?

The candidate has to undertake the following steps while filling the application form:

  • Step 1: Candidates have to log in to the Official HSSC Website at www.hssc.gov.in.
  • Step 2: Click on the 'Apply Job Online' link on the homepage.
  • Step 3: Under the section of the relevant post, click on the 'Click here to Apply online for the ' link.
  • Step 4: Then candidates have to fill the HSSC 2019 Exam application form online.
  • Step 5: Candidates must keep in mind that they cannot change the information once they submit the form, so they have to fill the information very carefully.
  • Step 6: Candidates have to keep a scanned copy of photograph and signature which they need to upload in the Document upload link of the form.
  • Step 7: If candidates want to pay the application fee offline, they are requested to download the e-challan and take a printout of it. Net banking is also one of the modes of fee payment.
  • Step 8: Candidates should visit the selected bank and deposit the HSSC 2019 Exam fees as specified after twenty-four hours of generation of e-challan. After confirmation from the bank, the status of payment of fees will be updated in the HSSC website.

HSSC Exam Application Form

The application form is available online only. The candidate has to enter his/her personal and academic details in the HSSC Application form. After filling the required details the candidates need to pay the fees, after which the registration process will be completed.

Documents Required to Apply for HSSC Exam

  • Applicants should have scanned copies of mark sheet of 10+2/Graduation/Diploma/Degree and Matric showing their Date of Birth.
  • Scanned copy of their photograph and signature should be uploaded. 
  • Candidates who have already applied before should have a copy of the challan, a certificate given by the treasury or e-challan.
  • Candidates who are Sportspersons should have the scanned copy of Sports Graduation Certificate issued by the Concerned Authority.
  • Candidates under BCA/BCB/SC/PHC/EBPG/ESM/DESM/DFF and women who are from Haryana should have scanned copy of Haryana Domicile Certificate issued by the concerned authority. 

HSSC Exam Pattern

The exam will be conducted both online and offline. The paper will contain Multiple Choice Questions(MCQs). The exam pattern for all the posts except posts in Haryana police is the same. The exam pattern for recruitment for various posts under the HSSC Exam are:

Exam Pattern for the post of Junior Engineer, Gram Sachiv and Canal Patwari

In the exam, there will be a written test, which will have a weightage of 90%. Remaining 10% marks will be given on the basis of Socio-Economic criteria and experience. The written test will further contain 75% General and technical topics and the remaining 25% will test the knowledge of the candidate about various aspects of Haryana. 

The Socio-Economic Criteria includes the following:

  • 5 marks will be awarded to the candidate if any of the candidate's relative (which includes father, mother, spouse, brother, and Son) was or is not a part of any organisation under state or central Govt.
  • 5 marks will be awarded if
    • The candidate is a widow.
    • The applicant's father died before attaining the age of 42 years.
    • The applicant's father died before the applicant attained the age of 15 years.
  • 5 marks will be awarded if the candidate belongs to any of the denotified or Nomadic tribe which does not come under either Backward or Schedule classes

The candidate will be given 0.5 marks for each year for their experience in the same or higher post in any other Govt Department. The maximum marks that can be given for experience are 8.

Exam Pattern for the post of Sub Inspector(SI) and Constable in Haryana Police

The selection process consists of three steps:

Written test (Knowledge Test): It constitutes 80% weightage of the total score. There are a total of 100 questions. Each question carries 0.80 marks. The medium can be Hindi or English.

Physical Screening Test: The candidates qualifying the Knowledge test will proceed for the Physical screening test. In this, the candidates have to run a certain distance in a predefined time. This test is qualifying in nature. The details of the Physical screening test is as follows:

Physical Measurement test: This test is also qualifying in nature, in which the candidate must have height and chest measurements equal to or more than the specified standards.

10 marks are dependent upon Additional qualification that the candidate has over the normally prescribed qualification for the posts.

  • For Constable, a candidate who has done graduation will be given 4 marks and the candidate who has done Post- graduation will get an additional 3 marks. 
  • For SI, a candidate who has done graduation in Law or forensic medicine or forensic science or Computer Engineering/Science will get 3 marks and the candidate who has done Post- graduation will get an additional 3 marks. 

HSSC Exam Admit Card

The Admit card will be released online on the official site of HSSC. The HSSC Exam admit card will contain details about candidate such as the roll number and application number and the location of Exam Centre. The exact dates for the release of Admit card are not declared yet, they will be updated soon.

The candidates will have to submit their application number, date of birth and security pin to download admit card.

How to Download the HSSC Admit Card?

The given steps must be followed to download the HSSC 2019 Admit card:

  • Step 1: Candidates should visit the official HSSC website at www.hssc.gov.in.  
  • Step 2: Click on the 'Apply Online Job' link on the homepage.
  • Step 3: Under the respective post you can find links to download the admit card.
  • Step 4: Once you click on the admit card link, enter your registration Id and password and click 'submit' to login.
  • Step 5: At the left sidebar of the page, click on the admit card link to download the admit card for HSSC 2019 Exam.
  • Step 6: Candidates should take print-out of the Admit card to bring it to the Exam centre.

Documents required at the Exam Centre

The applicant must take the following documents to the exam centre:

  • Admit card
  • A valid Photo ID card

HSSC Exam Results 

The results will be declared in both online and offline mode. The HSSC Exam result will contain the list of Roll numbers of the candidates who are able to qualify the exam. The final result after all the procedures will also be mentioned in the same format on the official website of the exam.

How to view the result?

Offline Procedure:

  • The results will be printed in 4 widely recognized newspapers - 2 regional and 2 national.
  • The candidates can check their Roll number in the given list. If their roll number is there in the list, they have qualified the exam.

Online Procedure:

The candidates need to follow the given steps in order to download the result:

  • Step 1: Visit the HSSC Official Website at hssc.gov.in.
  • Step 2: Use Registration Id and Password to log in to the HSSC portal.
  • Step 3: Click on the "Check Results for HSSC 2019 Exam" that will lead you to the scorecard.
  • Step 4: Your scorecard for HSSC 2019 Exam will be displayed on the screen.
  • Step 5: Download and take a print out of it for future use.

HSSC Cutoff

The cutoff marks depend upon the number of seats available for the exam, the difficulty level of the paper and the number of candidates appearing for the exam. The cutoff for each post varies from one category to another. 

HSSC Exam Selection Procedure

The HSSC Selection Procedure for the posts of Constable and SI is different from all the procedure of all the other posts.

Selection Procedure for the post of Junior Engineer, Gram Sachiv and Canal Patwari

For these posts, there will be a written exam, in which the candidates have to score above the cutoff decided by the commission. The written test will contribute to 90 marks out of the 100. The rest 10 marks will be given on the basis of Socio-Economic criteria and Experience.

The Socio-Economic Criteria includes the following:

  • 5 marks will be awarded to the candidate if any of the candidate's relative (which includes father, mother, spouse, brother, and Son) was or is not a part of any organisation under state or central Govt.
  • 5 marks will be awarded if
    • The candidate is a widow.

How to prepare for HSSC Exam?

As there is a huge competition in this exam, the candidates must prepare well for this exam. The Aptitude and reasoning section consumes a lot of time and the questions are tricky, thus a lot of practice is required that too of different types. The candidates should solve as many sample and previous year papers as possible.

Regarding the General Awareness and Language section paper, the candidate should read the newspaper daily and thoroughly. The editorials are really good for improving vocabulary and all this improves the candidate's reading ability.

HSSC FAQs

Q. I forgot my login password. What should I do?

Ans. Click on the tab of "Forget password". You'll be redirected to a new page where you have to answer a few security questions in order to retrieve the password.

Q. I am not able to upload the scanned images of the documents. What can be the reason?

Ans. Check the image size and image extension. The image size should be less than the specified size limit and the image should be in JPG/JPEG format.

Q. I have paid the fees through E- Challan, but it is not getting reflected on the site. Do I need to pay the fees again?

Ans. The processing of E-challan takes 24-48 hours. The candidate should wait for that time, after that contact the authorities.

Q. Do I need to send the documents to the commission through the post?

Ans. No, there's no need to send the documents to the commission.
