• The candidate should have a minimum of 17 years of regular education [12 years of school+3 years of Bachelor Degree and 2 years of Masters Degree or 4 years Bachelor Degree+1 year Master Degree in International Relations or equivalent disciplines such as Economics, Political Science, Mass Communications, Sociology, Anthropology, Education, History, Geography, Law, Development Studies, Criminology, Cultural Studies, Post Colonial Studies, Gender Studies, Social Work, Comparative Literature and Comparative Religious Studies ]
• All the degrees should be from a university recognised by one of the SAARC nations
• The candidate should have a minimum of 50% aggregate in all the degrees and higher secondary
• Candidates who are pursuing Masters Degree and are yet to appear for the last semester exams can also apply
• The candidates will have to go through an Entrance Test and Interview for selection
• The candidates need to score at least 50% marks in both the interview and entrance exam for admission
• The Entrance  Exam also has negative marking 
• The candidates invited for the interview will be given a travel expense of INR 5000
• The Entrance Test application costs INR 650

Scholarships at South Asian University, [SAU] New Delhi:

SAU offers scholarships under three category.

SAU President's Award:

• This scholarship is awarded to the students who top in the entrance exams of their respective countries
• The students should come under top 10 percentile of the combined merit list of the all their subjects

SAARC - India Silver Jubilee Scholarship:

• This scholarship is awarded to the students who belong to the least developed countries of SAARC

SAU Scholarship/ Financial Support:

• This scholarship is offered to the students on need cum merit basis

Miscellaneous:

• South Asian University offers scholarships and financial support
• The students are offered a maximum fee waiver of INR 22,000 on the tuition fee per semester and a living allowance of INR 7,000 per month
• The scholarship awardees also get to stay in the hostel free of cost
• A startup amount of INR 10,000 is offered to the scholarship awardees who belong to SAARC nations other than India
• For Indian nationals, the startup amount offered is half of what the other candidates are offered
