Ramanujan College has emerged as one of the promising colleges of DU, with its updated courses and exceptional faculties. Yet its lack of infrastructure capabilities keeps it from becoming one of the best colleges.

GetMyUni's Verdict on Ramanujan College

Established in 1958, Ramanujan College has since emerged as one of the most sought-after colleges at Delhi University. It has been expanding exponentially in the past decade and has seen massive growth. The primary reason that the students are interested in taking admission to Ramanujan College is for its ranking and knowledgeable faculties.

The college offers only a handful of the courses. Although, students are largely satisfied with Ramanujan College. However, like any other college, this too has drawbacks. On various online platforms, students can be seen as concerned over the placement scenarios. Similarly, many of the facilities are under construction since the college is still in expansion mode. Hence, it creates a hurdle for the students.

Table of Contents

In-depth Curriculum

Ramanujan College follows the entire course structure as the University Grants Commission prescribes. For this reason, the courses are thorough and include the latest developments in the respective industry. The college offers only undergraduate Science, Arts, Commerce, and Vocation programs. However small the course offerings are, the courses are designed appropriately to impart the students with the best education.

Semester exams are held timely. The exams are moderately difficult, and most students can pass. Along with the exams, the classes are also held on time. B.Com, BA, and B.Voc are among the popular courses of the college. The admission process is based on the entrance exam marks. Furthermore, Ramanujan College sets a comparatively high cut-off from many of its DU counterparts.

Expensive Course Fees

Even though Ramanujan College is fully funded by the University Grants Commission, the course fees are expensive. The fees for a B.Sc course range between INR 67,500 and INR 1,00,000, while for a BA, they range between INR 49,500 and INR 67,500.

Similarly, students need to pay INR 84,000 for the B.Voc courses. Such fees are not affordable to many of the aspirants. However, to counter such effects, the administration provides a few scholarships to lower the course fees. However, such scholarships are limited.

Helpful and Supportive Faculties

Ramanujan College’s faculties are carefully chosen. The faculty members possess high qualifications, thus making them experts in their field. The professors are helpful and approachable in their nature. They thoroughly clear the students’ doubts.

The professors encourage the students towards their career goals and provide all the support the pupils need. In addition to this, the faculty members use creative approaches in their teaching methods to make the lectures interesting. They use methods to simplify complex topics for better understanding.

RAMANUJAN COLLEGE Students

However, a few students have also expressed on various online forums about teachers who are not polite in their approach or are bothered by the teaching. Such professors might make a student’s interest in a subject drop significantly. However, such a percentage of faculty members is low.

Adequate Infrastructure

As mentioned earlier, Ramanujan College has been expanding for the last couple of years. It still is building much of the crucial infrastructure. Instead, the current facilities are sufficient for the students to conduct their academic life smoothly. The classes are spacious and have a mix of traditional and modern facilities. /few of the classes are equipped with air-conditioning systems. The entire campus has a strong internet connection.

Furthermore, the central library has many books spanning various subjects. It includes books, research papers, journals, periodicals, etc. There are only a handful of laboratories on the campus, as the science courses are limited. One of the commendable aspects of the infrastructure is its maintenance capabilities. All the facilities inside the campus perimeter, including the washrooms, are well maintained. Rarely does any equipment or facility have faults.

The sports facilities, though not huge, have considerable variety. Many other facilities, such as the canteen, water-water management, etc., are on campus. Moreover, the campus is situated among lush greeneries, giving it a calm and soothing study atmosphere. The food facilities at the canteen are very affordable and have a lot of variety.

No Hostel Facilities

The major drawback of its facilities is the absence of hostels. Students from faraway places must find accommodation facilities outside the campus. Since it is located in the capital city, many paying guest or hostel options are available at a wide range of prices. These hostels are well-maintained and come furnished with basic amenities. These accommodation facilities are available near the college. Hence, it saves the commute time by a lot of margins.

Average Placement Record

Ramanujan College has an approximately 70% placement rate. While the majority of the departments see recruitments, for a few departments, there are no placements yet. This needs to change drastically as one of the major goals of the students is to be placed in a good company.

Many top companies visit the campus for recruitment. As much focus is on providing placement opportunities, there is no attention or help offered to the students securing internships, which is necessary for their careers.

The placement cell is not prompt in its responsibilities. They lag behind in providing proper training facilities to the students. Such a lack of recruitment training only means that students are not groomed enough and have deficient skills to crack the interview or group discussion. The highest salary is around INR 21,50,000, while the average package is INR 5,14,000. Over 150 companies visit the campus each year for the placements.

Friendly Campus Environment

Ramanujan provides a wholesome environment to the students. Though it may not host many cultural or sports events throughout the year, it is enough for the students to not get bored. Everyone maintains a cordial relationship, from the professors to the staff and between the senior and junior students. Thus, it facilitates a lot of interaction among the college crowd. Students are actively encouraged to participate in the extra-curricular activities as well.

RAMANUJAN COLLEGE Sports

Although there are no strict rules and regulations, students do have to maintain a 75% attendance record. Failing to do so might result in them being suspended from the semester exams. In addition to this, students do not have to stick to any dress code or uniform system.

Since admission to Ramanujan College is based on the national-level entrance exam, students from different corners of the country take admission. This enhances the college's diverse profile, and students learn many cultural aspects from their peers.

Is Ramanujan College Worth it?

Ramanujan College is good for those seeking a wholesome campus life and good academics and faculties. However, Ramanujan College might not provide it all for those looking to hone their skills and excel at their careers through proper guidance and opportunities.

The college is still developing and has a long road ahead to provide a robust infrastructure, career opportunities, and guidance. It also needs to focus on the placement scenario and recruitment-based training.
