With the poor faculty behaviour and unsatisfactory placements, can Punjabi University improve itself to become a destination of academic dreams of the students?

GetMyUni's Verdict on Punjabi University

Punjabi University, situated in the famous city of Patiala, is an A-grade university offering various courses. The university has got mixed reviews, depending on multiple factors. For students, the institution is not up to the mark in the areas of faculty and placements.

The university's faculty is very good but rude to their students, and the well-maintained infrastructure is unfortunately not always clean and tidy. To see if the university is worth the ride, let’s delve into all the factors that make an institution a beacon of education and knowledge.

Table of Contents

Different Types of Courses

At Punjabi University, different courses are available for candidates, giving them various career choices. The courses available in the institution range from diplomas after Class 10 to research level programs, giving candidates a full range of options. The programs offered by the institution are pretty affordable for the students.

The lowest tuition fee per annum for a degree program is INR 23k. Due to the diverse courses' affordability, students from various economic backgrounds in India can access top-quality education. The programs' curricula are designed and curated based on the students' practical learning and skill development, thus preparing them for a successful career in their role.

Scholarships

Punjabi University offers scholarships to students across various departments at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The institution provides popular scholarships: Merit Scholarships under National Merit Scholarship Schemes, Government Loan Scholarships, Merit Scholarships, and UGC Postgraduate Merit Scholarships. The university also provides stipends for children or grandchildren of Freedom Fighters and Ex-INA personnel.

Qualified but Rude Faculties

The professors of Punjabi University are reputed to be well-qualified and cooperative with students in general. Although the professors have a good impression of the students in the areas of qualification, it has been noticed that not all teachers are helpful and cooperative with the students. Many teachers in the university have been seen to show disinterest in resolving candidates' issues.

Being very stern, the professors at Punjabi University sometimes act discriminatory toward the students. While some teachers are well-trained and impart valuable knowledge, others show varying levels of dedication and do not solve students' doubts and issues, leaving candidates with many unclear concepts.

Punjabi University conducts regular exams. The institutions follow a simple, industry-based curriculum, although some students feel that the course structure is old and a few subjects are unnecessary.

Good Infrastructure

Punjabi University has a good infrastructure, well-maintained and furnished buildings, hostel facilities for boys and girls, and ample parking spaces. There are various sports grounds, well-furnished libraries,  computer labs, etc. The institution also offers modern amenities like Wi-Fi, CCTV coverage, up-to-date lab technology, and a functioning legal aid cell.

The classrooms at Punjabi University are large, air-conditioned, and adequately ventilated, making for a comfortable studying environment. Every student has a comfortable chair, and the chalkboard has excellent visibility from every angle in the classroom. The computer lab does, however, have issues with outdated hardware. Positively, the college offers well-equipped labs with state-of-the-art equipment to facilitate practical learning in a variety of topics, including botany.

Punjabi University has Wi-Fi-enabled throughout the campus, with a library containing many books, magazines, newspapers, and other resources. However, the library's size is limited, and not all required textbooks are available. For the students, the existing collection is restricted. The institution has a single library for all students, but some departments here have their libraries.

The canteen at Punjabi University offers good-quality, affordable, and tasty food in a spacious setting. There is also a mess available for the students to provide good food. The institution also provides good campus security throughout the area. Regular surveillance and guards have been placed to keep the campus safe and secure.

At Punjabi University, student-managed sports teams contribute to a vibrant sports culture on campus. There are ample resources and facilities available for the candidates for their recreational time, but unfortunately, the sports grounds are expected to be maintained better by the administration.

Campus Life

The dress code at Punjabi University is not defined for all types of courses and programs. Some of the schools under the institution may have a dress code. For example, the students of the School of Management under Punjabi University, Patiala, must dress in white shirts, grey trousers, maroon turbans (for Sikh students), and black shoes.

Punjabi University has a strict policy on the students' attendance for their program. All the candidates studying at this institution must maintain an attendance rate of 75% each semester on the grounds of lectures in every course.

Decent Hostel Facilities

The students of the Punjabi University are provided with the hostel facilities. There are separate hostels for both girls and boys. Although the classrooms are air-conditioned, hostel rooms and the mess are not air-conditioned. Due to this, the students are uncomfortable during the humid monsoon months. The students are pretty satisfied with the well-maintained hostel rooms, and RO water is available on campus in surplus. As a drawback, the hostel and campus area lack cleanliness sections.

The hostel fees are very cheap and compatible with the resources provided for the students. The average cost for the hostel per quarter is INR 4000. As the campus is located in Patiala, one of the major cities of Punjab, there are several PGs available for students who want to opt for something other than the hostel provided by the institution.

Low and Unsatisfactory Placements

Punjabi University has faced challenges in providing placements, particularly for the students in the Department of Law. The institution does not actively promote internship opportunities for the students, and instead, the institution has kept the main focus on the syllabi with limited extracurricular activities. Placements in the engineering department of Punjabi University are more common but with a low range of 10-20% of students who were successful in securing job offers.

The highest salary package is around 15 LPA, while the lowest is 5 LPA. Top recruiters at Punjabi University include banks and insurance companies. Although the institution claims 100% placement rates, the actual numbers are hugely different, affecting students' preferences and morale.

The only good point for the placements is that the university has set up a placement cell that helps facilitate internships and safeguards students. Overall, Punjabi University strives to provide opportunities but, in the end, faces challenges in getting the graduate students a suitable placement and package.

Is Punjabi University Worth It?

Selecting Punjabi University may not be an excellent decision, based on the factors of faculty and placements. If the candidate wants to choose the university based on its affordability, then it is advisable not to keep the institution on the top colleges for their program. Nevertheless, the candidates who may be interested in Punjabi University may consider some factors other than these. The pros and cons of choosing Punjabi University are given below:

Diverse range of affordable programs available

The placement rates are low and unsatisfactory

The campus is secure and regularly monitored

The attendance policy is strict

The professors are qualified
