About Kurseong College, [KC] Darjeeling
Kurseong College (KC), Darjeeling was established in 1967. This is a Government College. The college is fast developing and is offering bachelor degrees in fields of arts, science and commerce. The college is looked after by a General body which comprises the principal of the college, the SDO of Kurseong, appointed members for the general body and the most important personnel being the General Secretary of the college who is nominated or elected through a free and fair election. The institute is situated in the midst of open, attractive scenery of nature. The calm, quiet serene situation is quite conductive to academic pursuits. The college is recognized by UGC under 2(f) & 12(b) .The College has well experienced teachers to enlighten the students.
The college is affiliated to North Bengal University, established in 1962 with a goal to disseminate knowledge to fulfill growing socio-economic and technical manpower needs in the six North Bengal districts and the neighboring state of Sikkim. This is a state university situated near Siliguri in Darjeeling district. The University was established by Act of the Legislature of West Bengal in 1962.
Kurseong College is a Government aided institute of the state of West Bengal and affiliated to the University of North Bengal. The terms of appointment of teaching and non-teaching staffs and their salaries are governed by the guidelines framed by the Govt. of West Bengal. The overall academic matters are controlled by the University of North Bengal.
Apart from that the college is included under Section 2(f)/12(B) of UGC Act 1956. The University Grants Commission (UGC) provides financial assistance to eligible colleges which are included under Section 2(f) and declared fit to receive central assistance (UGC grant) under Section 12 (B) of UGC Act, 1956 as per approved pattern of assistance under various schemes. This makes Kurseong College eligible for central assistance from the Government of India or any organization receiving funds from the Central Government.
