Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow was established by Divyangjan Sashaktikaran Vibhag in the year 2008 by Uttar Pradesh Government. It is spread over an area of 131 acres. The university provides all the necessary facilities to the students.

Library: The university has a well-equipped library. It has 4000 reference books with National and International Journals. The library is equipped with a 64 KBPS RF link and connected to a 2 MBPS leased line from BSNL. The library has GUI-based management software with a unique collection of books, compact discs, and audio-visual material in the form of audio cassettes and slides related to speech, hearing, and allied fields. In the future, the University proposes to install various disabled-friendly software like Optacon, Kurzweil, Duxberry Translator, Magic, JAWS-11, Strip Magnifier, and CAI packages like Mathematics for the educable mentally retarded, Fun With Numbers, Make Communication Easy, Trace & Play.

Hostels: The University provides a hostel facility for both boys and girls which is very spacious and well-ventilated. Attendants are provided to the disabled children for managing their daily affairs. There is constant supervision and monitoring of the students’ activities and an emphasis is laid on their safety. There are separate facilities for boys and girls, caring wardens, and security measures in the University. Each Hostel is self-contained with varied amenities.
