Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences is situated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The University established under the State Act in 1983. It is situated in the Southeast of Lucknow city. The institute is spread around 550 acres of a residential campus. The institute teaches and trains medical students and it is a super-specialty medical Institution.

The institute trains the candidates of all specialties in all the clinical and paraclinical departments. The trainees who train the students are the Senior Residents (Hospital Service). The Institute offers its own degrees such as DM, MCh, MD, Ph.D., Post Doctoral Fellowships (PDF), and Post Doctoral Certificate Courses (PDCC) and Senior Residency in various specialties. SGPGI Fees vary for the different courses offered to the students.

SGPGIMS is rated as the top medical institution in the country that have been recognized for the course they offer and the students who acquire these degrees are placed both in the country and abroad. The institute has a specialty in 33 sectors including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nuclear Medicine, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, and Microbiology, etc.

The facilities available are only provided against some payment. Generally, there are no free treatments and investigations as such. But, special preference is given to patients who belong to the B.P.L. category and Asadhyarog and they are given indoor treatments for free. In order to use the facility provided to them, the patients who come for the treatment are asked to be in touch with the Patient Welfare Cell which is present in the OPD.

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences is popular for its excellence in teaching. The institute is accommodated with 1050 beds and has 146 intensive/high dependency beds, 24 operation theatres and other facilities as well. The hospital also runs 115 outpatient clinics of different specialties.

The institute has no facilities for general medical emergencies. The institute work as a referral. However, initial first aid is provided to the patients and then they are referred to the institutions which have these facilities.

SGPGIMS D.M. Course:

In order to pursue D.M. Course, students must have a degree of M.D. in medicine and pediatrics. In the Dept of MD/MCh, the trainers also receive the same training as the students. The various specializations offered by D.M. Dept are Cardiology, Clinical Immunology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Medical Genetics, Nephrology, Neurology.

SGPGIMS MCh Course:

To pursue the MCh course a student must have an M.S. Degree in Surgery. The specializations offered by MCh Dept are Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology.

SGPGIMS Cut Off:

SGPGI has more than 100 faculty members in the academic departments and all the departments are occupied with activities like teaching, training, patient care, and research. The departments and hospital involved in the activities are given below:

• Activities of the Anesthesiology Department include clinical delivery of quality anesthesia care, management of surgical intensive care unit, postoperative pain relief, pulmonary function testing, pain clinic, Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, critical care medicine.
• Activities included in the Department of Biostatistics & Health Informatics are Statistical Education, Research Consultancy, Computer Education, Data Analysis Support, Management of Patient Care Data.
• Activities of the Department of Cardiology are Treadmill Stress Testing and Colour Doppler Echocardiography, ICU monitoring, mitral valve balloon dilatations, pediatric therapeutic interventions, diagnosis and treating of cardiac diseases, etc.
• Activities included in the Critical Care Medicine are assessment, advice, transfer of the patients to the ICU, assessment and management of airway, placement of central venous lines, advice regarding parenteral nutrition of patients.

Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Eligibility Criteria:

SGPGI has set some criteria for the students who wish to pursue the degree of medical sciences. As per the criteria, the students will be eligible to pursue the courses provided by the college. Given below are the eligibility criteria for the different courses:  

Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Admission:

Candidates can apply for the application form online for admission process. The online payment for course fees is also available on the website. For the application form, the students are required to send a bank draft for INR 25. For the D.M./M.Ch courses, students are required to go through a written test of 90 marks where they are required to score at least 60%.

The qualifying candidates will go for departmental assessment, where the departments will keep in view the practical knowledge of the students, their capability to score high in the academic level, and conduct aptitude for research and training.

After qualifying in the departmental assessment the candidates will be interviewed by the committee. In the department test, the candidates are required to score at least 40% and in the interview at least 10%. For Ph.D. candidates, there will be a Viva Voce for 20 marks. The selected candidates must join the courses on an assigned date.

The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences Lucknow Uttar Pradesh hostel facilities provided to the students are:

• SGPGI has two types of accommodation one for married residents and another for unmarried residents.
• For unmarried students, two hostels are available with single-bedded rooms and attached bathrooms.
• For married students, the institute provides apartments with a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, green courtyard, etc.
