Being the first and one of its kind, DSMNRU has successfully blended together humanitarian efforts and inclusive education for persons with disabilities. Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow, has been leading the way in this critical journey, which aims to develop a barrier-free education environment and cater to the needs of specially-abled people.

Apart from its main goal, it has also emerged as a centre for outstanding innovation and research. Having all the necessary technologies and excellent faculties, DSMNRU offers a plethora of courses. Although its main aim is to cater to disabled people, students with no disabilities as well can take admission.

DSMNRU is a state government-established university that follows the standards of UGC, RCI, and AICTE. The university is stringent about its rules and regulations, especially for its anti-ragging rules. Being a state government university, DSMNRU has a highly affordable tuition fee. The fees for disabled persons and non-disabled persons are different for each course. Special concessions are given to the disabled persons or divyangjan. For instance, the fee for the divyangjan for BA is INR 3,605, while for non-divyangjan is INR 4,905. For M.Sc Statistics, the fees for the divyangjan are INR 9,305, while for non-divyangjan, they are 19,805.

For an MCA divyangjan person, the tuition fee is INR 9,305, while for a non-divyangjan, it is INR 34,805. Even if the fees are meagre, there are various scholarships available for students who can benefit from them.

The classrooms are spacious, and unique technologies are installed to help with visual aids. 

As mentioned above, the entire campus has a disability support system. Ramps, special toilets, and other necessary changes are present throughout. The computers have screen reading software, low-vision aids, mobility devices, magnifiers, and many more. The administration has ensured that wherever necessary, the basic requirements and equipment are changed or altered for the divyangjan to carry out their daily activities without any barriers.

Apart from the regular academic laboratories, there are special laboratories to help disabled persons. Each of these special labs focuses on a particular learning skill, such as point of view, orientation ability, sensory stimulation, and more. Some of the special labs are given below:

  • Resource Room for MR (Mentally Retarded) children
  • Orientation & Mobility Unit
