• The Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) has announced the CMI Entrance Exam 2025, scheduled for May 24, 2025. The application process will begin on March 1, 2025. The exam offers admission to BSc, MSc, and PhD programs in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. Key dates include the application deadline in April, admit card release in April, and results in June 2025.

Undergraduate Programs

• B.Sc (Hons.) Mathematics and Computer Science: 12th standard or equivalent.
• B.Sc (Hons.) Mathematics and Physics: 12th standard or equivalent.
• Note: Course selection can be made after admission.

Postgraduate Programs

• M.Sc Mathematics: BA, BSc, BE, BTech with strong mathematics background.
• M.Sc Computer Science: BA, BSc, BE, BTech with strong computer science background.
• M.Sc Data Science: BA, BSc, BE, BTech with strong background in mathematics, statistics, or computer science.

Doctoral Programs

Selection Process

• A common entrance test is conducted for B.Sc (Hons.), M.Sc, and Ph.D programs.
• Ph.D Physics: Candidates must qualify JEST, UGC-CSIR NET, or GATE.
• Shortlisted candidates for all Ph.D programs are interviewed.
• For other programs, academic records may lead to an interview call.

Special Admission Cases

• Direct B.Sc Admission: National Olympiad performers in Mathematics, Physics, or Informatics may be exempt from the entrance test.
• Includes students qualifying for IMOTC, EGMOTC, OCSC, IOITC, or medalists in INOI.
• Ph.D Exemptions:
• Mathematics: NBHM PhD Fellowship holders qualify directly for the interview.
• Computer Science: JEST (Theoretical CS) or GATE (CS/IT) performers may qualify directly.
• Physics: Direct interview qualification for:
• JEST rank ≤ 400.
• UGC-CSIR NET JRF rank ≤ 200.
• GATE Physics rank ≤ 100.

• 100% Fee Waiver: Family income ≤ INR 8 lakhs/year.
• 50% Fee Waiver: Family income ≤ INR 12 lakhs/year.
• M.Sc:
• 40% Fee Waiver: Family income ≤ INR 8 lakhs/year.
• 25% Fee Waiver: Family income ≤ INR 12 lakhs/year.
• Ph.D Students:
• Stipend: INR 37,000/month (first 2 years) and INR 42,000/month (next 3 years).
• Annual book grant: INR 10,000.
